Armor for Centaurs

Anyone have good advice on how to handle armor on Centaurs? I told my player he could wear a breastplate if he wanted but it would only add the AC bonus the front hex. (He used to be an elf who turned into a centaur after a reincarnation.) Also, it makes little sense for the breastplate to have a movement penalty.

So would a centaur just wear barding and have done with it?

Also, according to a strict reading of the rules he can now use his greatsword one handed. This, however, seems to make little sense unless centaurs have much more mass on their human torso. That is how I rationlized it anyway; he uses a greatsword and a shield now.

Armor for Unusual Creatures

The information on Table: Armor is for Medium-size creatures. Armor for Tiny or smaller creatures costs half as much as that for Medium-size creatures, provides half as much protection, and weighs one-tenth or less as much. Armor for Large characters costs double and weighs twice as much, and for Huge creatures it costs quadruple and weighs five times as much. Armor for even larger creatures must be specially made and has no standard price or weight.

Armor for a nonhumanoid creature costs twice as much as the same armor for a humanoid.

Of course, that affects the base price only - magic armor price is not raised or lowered, but costs a bit more or less depending on the change to the base price of the masterwork armor it is created from.

So a centaur could have any armor, but it costs more.

You could use the barding movement rules, but I havent reviewed them so I don't know how good they are.

You could also use the movement rules from the armor types (adjusted for centaiure base move, of course). This would probably be more fair as the Centaur is NOT a mount (at least, not in the classic sense of having a saddle and rider).

Think of him NOT as a modified horse, but as a PC who is rather large, unusual-looking, and has a really hard time in restricted spaces.
