Armor Personalization???

Whadda yall think about this? For instance. Norastad the catatonic adolesent wants to personalize his set of Half-Plate so it fits him more so than another person of the same race and stature to make it easier to move in and around. Personalization could maybe drop ACP by 1, raise the Max dex by 1, and drop the Spell Fail. by 5%. But it would adversly affect someone else wearing the armor by raising the ACP by 1, lowering the Max Dex by 1, and raising the spell Fail by 5%.I have no idea of what this would cost, but I would say that this wouldnt be as easy as it sounds, because it would take precise measurements of the subject and require his active participation in the armor's "refiting" trying on certain pieces and whatnot. Again whadda yall think?

I'd say it costs at least 3x as much as regular armor. It destroys the idea of armor as treasure. Everyone would want to have this done. It's out of balance with all the armor rules as they now stand. I wouldn't let this in my game with a 10' pole but as long as you understand the problems go for it!
 

I would also go so far as to say that the Armor being personalized would need to be masterwork, Personalization bonuses would stack onto the bonuses from the armor being Masterworked. (expecting to catch hell for this, but its all good)

Destroy Armor as Treasure? not at all, it'd just be a lil more helpful to lower level characters w/o access to magic armor. Also if someone wanted to Personalize a set of armor that was already enchanted it would have a 10% chance to lose its magic properties, that is if the Personalization DC was met, failure to personalize Magic armor would automaticly result in the negation of the armors magic and possibly some friendly damage for the PC's meddeling.

Crothian: I see sorta what your sayin, but Masterwork (as i see it) is simply very well made, where as Personalization is just as well made but retailored to hug the dimensions of the subjects body further making it more accomidating to the owner. I think the DC to personalize an armor would be 5-10 higher for the simple fact that your improving on near perfect armor and a failure would make the Masterwork armor NON-Masterwork

This fix anything, or yall still hatin' this?

Full Plate is an example of armor that is personalized.
From the SRD:

Full Plate: This armor consists of shaped and fitted metal plates riveted and interlocked to cover the entire body. It includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, and a visored helmet.

Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body, so full plate hampers movement less than splint mail even though splint is lighter. Each suit of full plate must be individually fitted to its owner by a master armorsmith, although a captured suit can be resized to fit a new owner at a cost of 200 to 800 (2d4X100) gold pieces.
Magic armor is not an issue as it automatically sizes to fit the wearer.
 

It's not a bad idea. I would think that it would have to be MW quality, then triple that full price (price of armor + 150 for MW). I'd have the DC of 25.

Personally, I like the idea and it would make sense in lower magic worlds.
 

It really is more historically acurate: all of the heavy and some of the medium armors *had* to be personalized IRL in the middle ages. (i think, I'm just a poor nerd, please mister don't shoot me)

here are some feats:

Armor Feats: each of these feats requires a specific armor feat to use properly (light, medium, heavy, sheild). The feat chain only applies towards one armor type (light, medium, heavy, shield) and must apply towards the same type of armor.

 Focused Armor (general, fighter) [by Wolf72]
You excel in the use of a particular armor or shield.
Prerequisite: appropriate armor feat (light, medium, heavy, shield)

Benefits: Choose one specific type of armor, you get -1 ACP and +1 max dex bonus. Shields only benefit from the –1 ACP.

Special: [This feat does not stack with any other ability that lessens the weight or encumbrance of armor, specifically mithral (a suit of mithral half-plate will not count as light armor, but will benefit from the increase in max dex and the -1 ACP).

 Armor Specialist (general, fighter) [by Wolf 72]
Your superior skill with armor allows you to use it more effectively.
Prerequisites: +3 BAB, Focused Armor

Benefit: With the specific type of armor you are focused you gain a +1 dodge bonus to AC (it stacks with other dodge stuff). You lose this bonus any time you would lose a normal dodge bonus.

Special: You do not need the Focused Armor feat if you want ot specialize with a shield (buckler, small, large).

 Armored Mobility (general, fighter) [by Wolf72]
You are an expert at moving in heavier armors.
Prerequisites: +2 BAB, Focused Armor

Benefit: Armor counts as one category less for you (minimum of light). This allows you to move faster with medium armor (or use a ranger’s special abilities), or use the full run ability in heavy armor.

Special: This feat does not stack with any other ability that lessens the weight or encumbrance of armor, specifically mithral (a suit of mithral half-plate will not count as light armor)
