Armor spikes and Two Weapon Fighting

Zaruthustran

The tingling means it’s working!
So I'm a ranger archer wearing spiked armor. In the surprise round, I shoot. Then I get charged. Now it's my turn--can I make a full attack and attack twice (both times with armor spikes)?

SRD:
"A regular melee attack (or off-hand attack) can be made with the spikes, and they count as a light weapon in this case."

Armor spikes cover both arms (spiked bracers) as well as shoulders. Pretty much where there's armor, there's spikes. So, it'd make sense that a two weapon fighter could make a regular and off-hand attack with spikes: two forearms, say, or a forearm and a shoulder bash.

The reason I'm posting this here in Rules is that it says "A regular attack". Do I take this literally?

If so, never fear: I'll make the archer a javelin thrower, wearing spiked armor and carrying a spiked shield.

Armor spikes count as one light weapon, and you can't add them to armor more than once. That said, you can't use the spikes as your primary and off-hand weapon. You get one or the other, not both.

I think of spikes as a collective single weapon, so you wouldn't be able to make on and off-hand attacks with it.

Also, look at your quote. it says: "regular melee attack (or off-hand attack)"

Note the or...not and. It may be a rules lawyery thing to do, ut If I had a player who wanted to do it I'd be looking for an out ;)

If you want your archer to be able to attack 2 weapon style when rushed without dropping your bow use a spiked or bladed gauntlet and armor spikes. IIRC you can't spike a buckler otherwise I'd say use that.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Thanks for the replies! I think I'm going to stick with the javelin + spiked shield idea. This character is an 18 Str Rogue, so he's better off throwing anyway. Good call on the spiked gauntlet, though. That way, he keeps the shield AC bonus. :)
