Armor Spikes & TWF

A player tried this on me today but It just seemed a little off.

In 3.5 can you take both your primary and offhand attack with the same set of armour spikes? Effectively TWF with a single weapon?

And can you take an attack with Two-handed Weapon and then an offhand attack with the spikes?

Also, from a practical stand point, how would you attach armour spikes to a chain shirt and how on earth would you fight with them? I just can't visualise it at all.

for what it's worth

I always imagine the spikes as being a completely seperate
"spike trip" that is belted on.
This matches at least one of the miniatures that I have and helps explain how they are seperate from the armor for enchantment purposes.
Otherwise it would be rediculous to "spike" chainmail
