I just read that monotreme factoid as a big middle finger to the people who ran 10-page flamewars about how breasts on sapient bipeds were "cheesy" and "childish". And it was well deserved if I'm right.

How do you expect people to understand that a biped is female if it doesn't have a defined breast? Do your really want to go back to the days where you had to grope a dwarf to see if it was male or female? (Btw what kind of genitals do dragonborn have?).

Makes sense to me... :-S

Old argument #372: It's MAGIC!

The dragons breathe fire, acid, and OrcSweat, too, and I don't see any complaints. That they can commingle their bloodlines with other types of critters is just another magical ability.

Let's all say it again - "Mendelian genetics do not apply to D&D."

Everybody needs a bosom for a pillow. Everybody needs a bosom. Everybody needs a bosom for a pillow. Everybody needs a bosom. Mine’s on the 45.

This applies to dragonborn too.

On one hand, I want - desperately so - to believe that this is meant as satire, or sarcasm, or that, in other words, you aren't being serious.

On the other hand, so many people say it without being sarcastic or satirical, and it makes me die a little on the inside.

Here's the thing: I don't think anyone actually cares about the biological reasons for dragon-:):):):). Yeah yeah, it's magic. Right, they're like platypi, only not because LOL FACT CHECKING WHAT'S THAT? We just found that to be one of the many reasons it was incredibly <obscenity> stupid.

Last I checked, gnolls, kobolds, and goblins didn't have their breasts hanging out. But I guess expecting a player to play something without :):):):) all over the place is TOO MUCH TO HANDLE!

LOL, the reason insects, reptiles, and other non-mammals have breasts is because many, many gamers and designers are men, and men like breasts.

The contents of D&D (and any other work of fiction) are driven more by human psychology than plausibility. Why do Star Trek and D&D both have a pointy-eared intellectual race and a violent warrior race that can interbreed with humans? It isn't because one is based on the other -- it is because warrior and wiseman archetypes are extremely common components of human fantasies. Furthermore, the "humans with funny masks" may have been a budgetary issue for Star Trek, but it is a common trope in fiction because it enables human readers to relate to supposedly "alien" characters.

Humans can barely get along with other humans, so it is rare that you see truly alien creatures as anything other than antagonists. (In fact, the biggest personal issue I have with worlds like Faerun is how humanity coexists with all of these other species without exploiting them or wiping them out.)

P.S.: There is actually a Japanese drink called Pocari Sweat. I drink called "orcsweat" isn't that hard to imagine...not that I would want to try it myself...

Actually, of the official D&D Gnoll minis and some artwork, female Gnolls have been depicted with breasts.

Goblins - Life through Their Eyes - Sunday, March 15, 2009 clearly depicts female goblins with breasts, and even lipstick!!

I can't speak for kobolds, but they've had so many thematic changes through the editions, anyway, it wouldn't surprise me.
