Indeed. I, too, wondered if they were associated when I was first introduced to the term.

And because it was internally consistent I never bothered to confirm the information. (To make it worse, when writers fail to confirm sources in their novels it bothers the heck out of me. Roll Eyes, where forth art thou?)

Imho 'Tome of Magic' is WotC's book of the year. Pact magic is a ready main theme for new campaign.

Oh yes. Browsing through the list of the 72 demons on the bottom, I recognize several vestige names, like Laraje, Andromalius, Amon (which before I thought might be a veiled reverence to Amaunator). And, of course, names like Baal and Belial are known as well.
