First Post
Well, I'm not too sure if there will be new/revised art, but here's to hoping. :)

Art I want to see Redone/Revised:
Vampire
Naga
Elves
Displacer Beast
Ghoul
Hell Hound

More Art I'd like to see:
More Demons
More Devils
More Slaad (I like Outsiders :D )

I don't have my MM to hand but from memory I'd like to see the vampire redone and almost all the dragons. I really don't like the exaggerated wing muscles and almost feline poses.

I agree with all of the above except the Ghoul, which I think was decently done, in some sense. It COULD be made to look cooler.

Things I'd like to see redone:
Hag - Small picture, not as detailed as I'd like to see.
Kobold- Make them look Dangerous, not sick lizard looking for food.
Magmin- He looks like Ross Perot. Give me less of a goofy face.
Treants- The look like... well, weak little sapplings. Gimmie Treebeard.

Pictures for Every Monster.

I, however, shall make a list of the images I hope they don't change:

Dragons. I love them as is. A feline pose is just right for Dragons. Dragons never do what you want them to, they have a high opinion of themselves, they sleep a lot, and some ancient cultures worshipped them as gods.

Anything else by Todd Lockwood. As long as Lockwood was both pencils and coloring, keep it as is. I don't like the result of when somebody else colors Lockwood's work. But the man's a genius.

Hellhound is great in my opinion. It stands out because its style is not the same flashy form as most other illustrations. It looks more like something in an ancient text.

Anything by the person who did the Drider and that demonic devouring thing with the person in its chest. Yummy evil goodness.

The aboleth. I much prefer a dangerous-looking shark race than a pasty bulbous slug race.

I like most of the work of Sam Wood, but some of his coloration is a little muddy, like on the Glabrezu. He could've done a little more definition in its form.

Frost Wurm and Rhemoraz I like particularly, because they show people in relation to the monster. However, I dislike the things like the Giant Eagle and the Dire Bear, because they're just standing next to the monster, not reacting to it at all. I'd like an Elf riding a giant eagle, and a druid commanding her dire bear to attack, as it rears up on its hind legs thirty feet into the air.

I agree about the Ross Perot critter. That could do to be changed.

They also should get Rebecca Guay to do some more illustrations. She has such a wonderful feel for mysterious fantasy, and I think she would do a great job with any of the ghost-like creatures. Plus, she could make some cool-looking elementals, since the only one we have is the boring earth elemental.

Why do we have Larry Elmore doing the Nymph and the Titan? And why do both of those 'monsters' look like they have wooden rods shoved up their . . . um, backs. They're so stiff. Nymphs should be beautiful and flowing, like nature, and Titans should be imposing and powerful. It looks like Elmore just took a photo of a guy and a girl standing still. I don't find anything interesting about monsters that just stand still. I know Elmore can do more interesting pieces, and I used to love his work, but a lot of the stuff I've seen by him recently has been disappointing.

Heck, redo all the art, if they want! Just to shake up the look of the game again, get a whole new set of artists, or have the same artists do different critters. Maybe get some Magic artists, or even a few people who've worked with third-party companies.

Of course, by this point the books are probably already laid out and being printed, so the point is moot, but I can hope. ;)

I'd much rather have the Hellhound pic from the back of the PHB in there. I loved that picture. It's balck and white but still so very great.

I think the belker, xorn and the ettercap could do with a redraw, by another artist. They look like a bunch of overweight, pastel-shaded weirdoes, not the threatening and dangerous monsters they are.

I find most of the art uninspiring, with a few exceptions such as the following: Achaierai, Chimera, Couatl, Kuo Toa, Owlbear, and Worg. But this has been said many times before and I doubt they will change much of the art, if any, between now and then.
