As you got sucked in to D&D, when did you know?

I had been playing about two years when 3.0 came out. When we statred the new campign using 3.0 it was one of the best role playing experiences ever. I knew I was hooked when we took the first break over the holidays and those three weeks seemed to last an enternity. It was during that time that I found gaming boards to help ease the pain of not playing. :D

I would now rank role playing as my number one hobby.

Welcome to ENWorld!

And welcome to D&D. In no time you'll have a ton of stories to tell.

As for me, I played it a couple of time before I owned any of the material. I guess when I wrote up my own game and badgered my Dad into playing it. He bought me the Moldvay Basic set the next week. I guess that's when I was hooked.

After playing my first BD&D game, delving into an old wizard's fortress to come face to face with a dragon with my Halfling character. It was the Hobbit come to life for me, at age 9.

The adventure was "Creature of the Rhyll", from an old issue of Dragon Magazine (new then, though).

I bought the Dragon CD archive just to get that adventure. :)

Probably after the 2nd session of the 'Rei Saga', after which the group decided to scrap the rules, and play the game completely freeform. The DM completely improvised the rest of the sessions, and although the story was quite Anime-ish in style, I can honestly say I've never had so much fun.

It seems like most of the others here started at a relatively young age. Are there any other posters that got to a late start like me, after they were 14+ or so?

My apologies for any lack of coherence. At times I can be an excitable little poster.

Hero Quest had just came out and my grandma gave it to my step-cousin for Christmas. I traded by copy of Bases Loaded for the NES for it and have been happily gaming in one form or another for over 12 years now.

I have to ask, what is the Rei saga? I'm having Evangelion flashbacks.

Would you believe while I was making my first character? Certainly no more than 10 minutes after I started playing. Which, incidentally, is also how long my character lived. Caves of Chaos, the Evil Temple (was it letter K?) Zombies killed me in the entrance when I chickened and ran...

Been hooked ever since... Seriously hooked. Can't think of a day when a roleplaying game didn't cross my mind.

Edit: Oh, yeah. I was 13. It was 1981 (Basic Maroon Box set though most people call it the Red Box Set).
