The question is: does this mean that a global energy crisis will herald the onset of the apocalypse?

Not at all. Since, as we all know, the simple hydrocarbons that form "crude oil" are quite common stellar by-products, it's simply a matter of:

1) digging deeper to find the simple hydrocarbons that have not yet trickled to the surface;
2) exploring other planets & celestial bodies that will yield their own virgin supplies of hydrocarbons;
3) finally, finding ways to mine the gas giants, which have enough hydrocarbons to last quite a while.

If we don't have a better energy source by the time Jupiter runs out of that layer of atmosphere, we can send our oil tankers on to other solar systems -- we just have to be careful about investigating alien distress beacons on their way back.

Next Question: We have a ram that is a cross between the Finn and Border Leicester breeds. We wish to mate it in order to get a good spinning wool that will work well with natural dyes. Our choices for mating it would be with a Finn/Scottish Blackface cross, a Marino/Scottish Blackface cross, or a Tunis/Finn cross. Which would you recommend and why?
