Assassin Class

Just wondering if anyone has attempted to make a 4E Assassin class yet, or what people would suggest to try to mimic one? Comments? Suggestions? Any feedback would be cool, thanks.

I'm sorry if this seems condescending but have you looked in the PHB? The rogue and many of the rogue's paragon paths basically are the assassin. If you want some assassin style magic than a warlock multiclass is easy and effective and can give you almost all the assassin magic as well.

Also, in the DMG there are poison rules.

Assassin is not a class, it's a profession. Assassination is simply killing people really fast and really well, which everyone can do, and it doesn't require its own special rules, the 3e Assassin PrC notwithstanding.

Actually, In 3e there was an assassin class and a whole assassin handbook (which was published in 2000). I was curious if anyone had "homebrewed" it for 4e, converted it over, or knows of anyone who has. I've seen druids, monks, and other new homebrewed classes on these forums already. This is why I asked about assassin.

You could probably create some new Rogue exploits focused almost exclusively on front-loaded damage from hiding, but it would be difficult to balance given the rather ... fluid ... nature of the current stealth rules :)

To re-create the effect of making a 3rd Edition Rogue who took levels in the Assassin prestige class, just make a 4th Edition Rogue and choose the Shadow Assassin paragon path. It's exactly what you're looking for.

If you want the minor spells of the 3.5 Assassin, multiclass with Wizard or, probably more fittingly, Warlock.

The fighter is not a class. It requires no special skills and anyone can do it, whether to defend themselves or go on a malicious attack...BLAH BLAH BLAH. What is this? 2e? :) I remember when TSR when on the "let's make D&D a pre-school game. The other thing that coudn't fit into the tiny heads of TSR at the time was the monk..because everyone knows monks can only be from china..and since D&D was not set in china, no monk could exist. [I'm still laughing and shaking my head]

Anyways, THE ASSASSIN, for your enjoyment:

Assassin in 4e would work as either a class or paragon path. A treatment for both would be recommended to allow players to start off as an assassin or work their way into it depending on their campaign. The Assassin would definately be a striker, but given their loner nature I'm not sure if they will fit into 4e that well since most of their abilities would require them to act alone. I'd be interested in seeing what someone comes up with though.

That wasn't true when it was printed in the 2E rulebooks as an excuse for removing the "not politically correct" Assassin class, and it's still not true. If it were, there'd be no need for Fighter, since it's just a person who picks up a weapon and fights (which anyone can do), etc. Sticking a sword into someone doesn't require special class rules either, but take a look at all those Fighter powers...

Any exciting or flavorful fantasy world profession that you can train in and become a master of is worth making a class for, if you think it would be fun in the game. I'm all for Assassin, and I'd wager we'll see one from WotC or a third party eventually.
