Because that isn’t the lore basis of the concept, and I don’t know enough about the folk lore and history surrounding ninja to make a respectful version of it.
D&D 5E Assassin, Executioner, Slayer, or Something else?

How many shadows would shadow slayer slay if a shadow slayer could slay shadows?
Most of the other names that come up feel a lot like "I didn't want to say assassin, so..." which is meh. If you want to stretch ideas out past single words (like all the other classes) you could go with something like Shadow Blade (or Shadowblade), Blade of Silence, Nightshroud, Black Knife, etc. Or my personal favorite, Sneaky Fighter, because Sneaky Fighter is sneaky.
Or just stick with assassin.
