Assassins in PHB3

Yeah, good to keep in mind that nothing is set in stone! The previewed class names for Avenger/Warden & Sorcerer being a Controller are good examples of some changes... I'm fairly certain we'll see an Assassin class, but I could see them renaming it to something else.

I'm tending to think we'll see shadow, ki, and psionic in PHB III . . . because I think we'll be seeing Dark Sun next year.
I don't know what's coming next year, but it would be quite possible to have each PHB focused on a power source that's central to that campaign.

Dark Sun --> Psionic (giving us a PHB with races like the half-giant and thri-kreen, and classes like psion and psi-warrior)
Ravenloft --> Shadow (giving us classes along the lines of necromancers and shadowcasters)
Oriental Adventures --> (with the obvious assortment of OA classes like monk and samurai)

I suppose that's sufficiently obvious that I"m just parroting what others have already hypothesized. Oh well.

What, no one think that ShadowMages and other stuff from the Tome of magic will also appear even though they were a PROTO 4E class?
I think its almost certain that the Shadowcaster will be showing up in 4e.

No one else does, because everyone else wants to fill the Shadow power source with wizard school-specialists from 3e (illusionist, necromancer). But I think they're wrong, and that we'll see a Shadowcaster. If nothing else, the shadowcaster-ish-ness of the already existent shadow powered paragon paths is a big clue.

In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the Shadowcaster has murdered the beguiler and illusionist silently in the darkness, and abscorded unseen with their stuff.

I now no longer think we're going to see a necromancer class. Rather, in keeping with The City Entombed article, necromancy will be a style of magic available to any magic using class. So clerics, swordmages, avengers, wizards, etc. all have the potential to be necromancers in their own ways.

As long as we get some manner of Beguiler or Illusionist in some form or another. Even one where it is simply consumed into another class I will be happy.
