Astral Fire (and other feats)

This feat, which is in the feat document cheat sheet (gives those oif us without the book ssomething to drool over while we wait) appears excellent for clerics and paladins, grants +1 dmg to radiant and fire damage. My question for those who have the books:

Does the bonus apply to a dragonborn's breath weapon assuming he choose fire as his breath weapon type?

I am hoping so because I am hoping to play a DB paladin.

Also, why was the toughness feat nerfed so badly? I much preferred the oner in the previews (+3 hp at start; +1 hp per level). At the very least make it +1hp per level. The current one is +5 hp/tier and thats a big nerf.

It looks like it does work with the DB. All it says is that you get a +1 to damage when using a power with the radiant or fire keyword, so I dont see why you couldnt use it.

Also I like toughness. Remember, you are only getting a few HP per level, and an extra 5 is quite a bit IMO.

About Toughness: 5 HP is essentially what you get for advancing a level as leader/striker and just 1 HP short of one level in a defender class.

EDIT: I think the original preview version was from an early draft of the rules where you got Con-bonus per level to HP. Pure speculation, but it looks like it.

Wait, so you no longer get con bonus to hp? :shock!: I know hp are fixed per level too from class, so that means 2 rangers of level 15 will have the exact same hp?

Anyhow, are you sure having a fire dragonbreath is the sameas having fire as a keyword in the power? It probably doesn't matter since +1 to damage isn't earth shattering but still.

You only get your constitution score as a basis, and then add hp based on levels and class.

You get your con stat to hp at first level.

Dragon Breath is a "Dragonborn Racial Power". So yes, it works.

Toughness is not a big nerf. It's freaking awesome.

I'm planning on taking it for my first level wizard.

It -doesn't- scale wonderfully, but that's what retraining is for.

Also keep in mind that the number of healing surges you get per day is also based on your con bonus.

It's like you have two different resources to track, your "encounter HP" and your "total daily HP"

Also, some feats and other things can modify your healing surge value (at least one specifically adding in your con bonus for each healing surge).

Example: A dwarf fighter with con 18 at first level will have 33 hit points to work with and 13 healing surges per day. Each surge will heal 8 hp, so the total daily hit points for this dwarf would be 137 (33+8*13).

At 11th level, boost the fighter's con to 20. He now has:

Hit points 33+60=93
Surges: 14
(healed per surge= 23) total healing from surges: 322
Total daily hit points: 415

Compare with a dwarf fighter who has taken the dwarven durability feat, but otherwise has the same stats (20 con)

Hit points: 93
Surges: 16
Healed per surge: 23+5=28
Total healing from surges: 448
Total daily hit points: 541

That's seriously different health for only a feat of difference between the builds.

Ah Toughness Scales anyway at 21st level its giving you 15hp - which makes the fact two weapon style Rangers get it free pretty sweet for them.

Especially seeing as there seems to be no disadvantage to taking the 2W style, and keeping dex and str on par and picking the "Melee or Ranged Weapon" powers (ie you get the best of both worlds - its not like its hard to pick up Defensive Mobility even at 1st level - which is all being a Ranged Ranger gets you.)
