Astrology Rules in Your Campaign?

It's kind of world-specific, but you might want to check out 'Relics & Rituals II' for Scarred Lands. They have all of the astrological signs and their relevance laid out. Also, there is a prestige class for scholarly types who work their magics in conjunction with the stars (High Astrologer, I believe).

IIRC, there are also feats you can take that give you an ability based on your birth month. Unfortunately, I don't have the book with me here at work. :D

Worth checking out, even if you run your own setting. If nothing else, great material to steal from.

This is all good stuff. I hope that some more people contribute.

Couple of questions and comments:

RuinedOne: Thanks for the tip on Relics & Rituals II. I remember now reading a review that mentioned those astrology rules - looks like a trip to my FLGS is in order.

Kamikaze: I like that you have different astrological systems for different races. That's similar to what I was going to do, but I think mine will probably overlap more. A question: do your various humanoid races also have their own astrological systems? As a DM, that would seem to be a lot of paperwork (if every NPC had different bonuses and penalties based on their astrological sign).

I'm also curious to hear a little more about your Astrologer PrCs if you're willing to share.

Azure Trance: Thanks for the reminder on the Septentrionalis Campaign. I'd forgotten to check there for awhile.

Oh, also, there are a few other sources I've found with some astrological concepts for d20.

Nyambe Player's Lorebook: This is a free download in PDF form of what eventually became the Nyambe: African Adventures hardback. There is a feat called "Astrological Magic" that allows you to make a Knowledge: Astrology check in order to gain +1 to your caster level for 24 hours.

Swashbuckling Adventures: There is an Astrology feat in here, too, that allows you to study the stars and a bunch of charts for about an hour (and also make a Knowledge: Astrology check) in order to either hinder or help someone. Hindering them makes the DC for any check they need to make +2 higher than it should be for the next little bit (I forgot how long). Helping them makes the DC of any checks they need to make -2 lower. A person can only be affected by one astrologer at a time.

Green Ronin's Witch's Handbook also has a feat called "Lunar Magic" which is based on cycles of the moon and gives the user a +2 caster level when the moon is full and a -2 caster level when the moon is new. There's actually quite a bit of stuff in this book on holidays and moon cycles and stuff that could be made more generic so it's not quite so specific to witches.

Long time ago I use the ATTRIBUTES for Astrology. I had a chart that would improve or hurt the character based on their prime stat.

It really did not work well but I have thought about working it back into my games.

Atlas's tome "Occult Lore" has an astrologer class and some great ideas for bringing astrology into any game universe.

I think Mongoose also has Star Magic, which is a magic system based on stars.....

Bump

Sorry but I just noticed this fell onto the second page and I'd still like to see some more comments and also get some comments back from people to whom I (and some others) asked questions.

Check out "Occult Lore". In Minneapolis, I've seen it on sale at various Shinders, I guess they think it is "old". It has a very good section on astrology, among other types of "alternate" magic.

Wasn't there a PrC in Liber Equitas 2 that was based around star signs?

Edit: The Society for Heavenly Movements. Domains for all the astrological signs, and other powers derived for darkness/the night sky.

Yeah, I think that Occult Lore is a great book, and there is a section on Astrology but it's very mechanics and numbers-based. I'm looking for more for ideas on how to develop a consistent astrological system for different cultures that overlap and sort of a quick summary of the different types of astrology (similar to Kamikaze's ideas on Lunar year, monthly, weekly, and daily astrological calendars).

I think I need to check out "Relics & Rituals II" but I'm not even sure if that's quite what I'm looking for.

I also think it's interesting that no one so far seems to be developing astrological systems for their world's humanoids, but only for their humans and demi-humans.
