Attack of the Clones DvD

That's Latin for "cool"
Let's get this out of the way: the documentaries are all about special effects. If that doesn't do it for you, you'll be unimpressed. No chats with the cast. No talks with the director about anything other than special effects.

I have something of a deaf ear when it comes to the complaints about working in a 100% blue screen environment. Studio theater actors do this all the time in black rooms, sometimes even without costume and they can do a very good job indeed. Not that any actor complained because, as I said, there were no comments from the cast. So maybe I'm just really reading into things that Lucas said.

The cut scenes were better than those in Phantom Meanace. Lucas felt they slowed things down just to give uncessary backstory. As my wife said last night "Yeah, that's called character development!" Padme's lonliness was empasized and Anikin is presented more as the first guy to come along and pay attention to her rather than her station. Also we see more of Natalie Portman's tummy, by far the single best thing in the movie. I don't think this excuses the Anikin-as-psycho-stalker angle, but an attempt is made to make more sense of the relationship.

Other scenes involving Count Dooku (which Lucas prononced Duh-koo) I agree could have been dropped and the bit with Obi Wan tracing down the injector thingie was also pretty unnecessary.

I disagree; I thought that Lucas made the right choice by leaving those Anakin/Padme scenes on the cutting room floor. Had those scenes been left in, they would have added very little in exchange for making the Anakin/Padme scenes in the movie even more slow and boring.

To be fair to these people, they're not used to it and it has to be a fair bit of an adjustment to someone doing it for the first time.

I'd suspect it's also a bit different when you're supposed to be acting with something that's not there, but will be added in later and exactly where you look does make a difference.

Finally, whenever I've heard an actor comment on the difficulties of working in front of a blue screen it is from people new to it.

I disagree entirely, which I believe I stated already. I don't think there is a single cut scene included on the disk that I would want put back in, but it's been a while since I've watched them, maybe I'll do so soon and get back to you.

What I would like to see are the cut bits from the Dooku/Yoda fight, which you can see being filmed in a couple of the featurettes.

p.s. When will you be starting the Ep3 and Ep4-6 threads?

The very idea that the Anakin/Padme scenes could be any worse shakes me to very core. Everyone involved with the last three Star Wars movies should be slapped.

And that includes me for wasting my time and money watching them.
