Attacks of Opportunity while holding a bow?

Hello,

Is it possible for a character using a bow or other ranged weapon to make an attack of opportunity (not with a bow, which I guess you cannot because its not a melee weapon, but with a melee weapon he's also carrying, or maybe his fist)?

Thanks!

EDIT: Oops, guess I should have replied after reading ALL of the original post. :D

Yes, I believe that you can perform AoOs if you are holding a melee weapon while also holding a bow.

As for using a fist. A person can only make AoOs with an unarmed attack if they are a monk or have the Improved Unarmed Strike feat.

Negative. You can only make AoO's with a melee weapon, and you have to threaten the area that the enemy is in.

For example:
If you are holding a reach weapon (other than a spiked chain) and an enemy starts casting a spell in an adjacent square, then you don't get an AoO. Also not that the whip can't make an AoO.

If you don't have Improved Unarmed strike, then you don't threaten with your fist. Hence: no AoO.

Instead of taking Improved Unarmed Strike, you could instead buy Armor Spikes. These do 1d6 damage (for a medium character) and can be used by anyone with proficiency in all Martial Weapons. Alternately, a spiked gauntlet does 1d4 damage (for a medium character) and usable by anyone with Simple Weapon proficiency. You'd probably only put one on the hand that holds the bow, rather than the hand that draws back the string, though.

I know that AoO only apply to melee, but in the case of a repeating crossbow, wouldn't it make sense to be able to take one? If not, perhaps that calls for a custom feat... it'd be quite a powerful ability, since anyone provoking an attack of opportunity with the range of the bow could be effected... but that just means making the requirments stiff.
