ATTN WotC folks? How much can we use the iconics for our own purposes?

[request: to the people who post as the iconics on these boards, please don't think I'm trying to solicit or anything (i.e., back off, Hennet, )]

Okay, the iconic characters can of course be used for your home game with no problems. Also, even though they are WotC's property, WotC seems to have no problems with Claudio posting images of the iconics on his website. I figure that, as long as you're not trying to make money off of them, or to use them mockingly, you're in the clear.

So . . . what about Asgard. In the art thread of this upcoming 'Summer Swimsuit Special,' Dr. Midnight mentioned that he wanted to do an image of the iconics in swimsuits, which we had already considered for a cover. However, in thinking about it, I'm wondering if it would earn the ire of WotC to see Alhandra, Mialee, Hennet, Lidda, and Krusk on the cover of Asgard magazine. Sure, the magazine is free, but will it peeve off WotC?

No offense, but a picture of Krusk in a swimsuit would peeve off just about anybody.

Ihad an idea about writing an RPGA module starring the iconics. Truthfully, I think the D&D Open competition *should* feature the iconics.

I thought the Iconics are Wizards' trademarks. And as such, owners of trademarks must vigilantly protect them else they lose their ownership right.

i'd have ta side with ranger reg on this one.

i think they're not for open use since they're not in the SRD, BUT... it wouldn't be a waste of time to ask WoTC about using them... i'd think they'd laugh they're butts off at the though of a swimsuit iconic calander or something like that... as long as it was tastfully done and they made money off it...

As I clearly said when you asked me, no you cannot use them. I'm confused as to why this thread even exists - it's pretty clear cut.

In this case, the iconics in swimsuits would probably be considered parody or satire, and in that case you might be allowed to do it and be protected legally.

But no matter what the legal status is, you should of course consider the wishes of WotC, Morrus or whoever is involved.
