[Attn: Writers who wanna write for Eberron] Plot workshopping?

Reading this thread again has reminded me I need to write more quickly, and spend time submitting instead of playing Halo 2. *grin*

Once again, good luck to us all. I sincerely hope whoever wins is someone who posted on these or the WotC board, so we can congratulate them.

Nothing here. From the transcript of the Wizards Open Call Chat session back in December, though: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/main/opencallchatlog2004

mad_dwarf: Any idea of when the Eberron Open Call winner will be announced?

Peter: Not yet. We're still reading the submissions and considering them. There are a lot, and we want to take the time to make sure we make the best selection possible. The job might be easier if all, or almost all, of you wrote badly, but a lot of you sent in good submissions so it's taking longer than we thought.

So I figure we've got awhile. When were those due? October? With several hundred, I figure we can expect something in March or April, maybe. February would be a happy surprise.

Thus spake Tacky, with no additional information whatsoever beyond the one quote and some stuff he made up because it sounded good.

As I recall, submissions were due at the end of August. So they've had a fair amount of time to dig through them and cull out the genuinely awful stuff.

I expect that the lack of a result comes from either A) the search committee people having other things they need to do (production crunches on books, etc.) or B) there being a fair amount of disagreement/indecision about which submissions the committee as a whole likes best... which would tie in to the "most people didn't send in manuscripts written in crayon" thing mentioned in the December chat.

Or both could be true at the same time.

Yeah, I'd imagine that makes sense. Given that the Eberron Novel folks also seem to be the New Fiction Line folks, they're gonna have a lot of things to do.

Bummer on people other than us having not-sucky stuff, though. I was really hoping it'd be "Good story from Tacky, Good story from Alec, Good story from Your Father Is, let's just reject the rest now."

Ah, well.

Good story from RangerWicket, Good story from Wulf... Screw it, let's publish them all!

Actually, I thought you didn't submit one -- didn't end up working timewise or somthing? No?

I was able to submit for Eberron, but not for the wider novel open call.

The problem I had was with mailing it in, but I seem to recall getting some feedback that they had received the entry ok.

Wait... you mean, submitting the manuscript in crayon was a BAD idea?! Oh no, next you'll tell me that my double scimitar wielding angsty Valenar Elf was a bad idea too!? :(
