[AU] Fuzzies versus Folklore

Yeah, I've noticed the crusade against furries on at least 2 different occasions.

I tried running a TMNT game way back, which used the Palladium system (ick) but the critter mutation rules rocked which the new After the Bomb rpg updated. Bad timing since it was around the time of the 'Cowabunga!' TMNT series. Maybe with the recent series I could try again. If it weren't for the Palladium rpg, I wouldn't have gotten into gaming.

More recently I tried running Usagi Yojimbo but one player didn't wanna play some <expletive deleted> bunny. Ah well. Maybe I should try getting him to read the trade paperbacks. I liked Space Usagi myself, which almost became a cartoon. However it was too similar to Bucky O'Hare so it was canned IIRC.

I'm just surprised at how vitriolic people get towards furries, even on this board. I mean, it's not like the fandom's any worse than the Star Trek crowd, and I don't see anyone here railing against them for the Seven-Of-Nine porn floating around. :p

Just from academic interest
where would one find Trek Porn?:D;P

The first reaction of one of my players to AU was a player expressing how cool the litorians were.

Yeah, I've always wanted to play a Kzinti too. ;)

Must be just because they're my zodiac sign...

WW, thank you! I've been trying to remember the names "Kzinti" and "Kilrathi" on and off all weekend, but just been too lazy to look them up. When you mentioned one, it sparked the other. :)

Not to mention all the Kirk/Spock slash fiction. Which just never made sense to me--I just can't see Spock getting it on with *anyone*.

Long before fuzzies was even a word in the geek lexicon, I was jumping to play the Lupine in Mysteria, the Thri-kreen in Dark Sun and I even made my own Ratham rodent race in GURPS.

Perhaps the hatred runs deep, back to those days when someone would ask me "Why don't you play a normal demi-human, like an elf?" and I would say, "because they bore me." I guess some took personal offense to that.

And speaking of dark quasisexual urges. I used to have a DM who had a thing for elves, especially after he read Elfquest. He would constantly make remarks like "okay after you set up watches for the night, everyone plays musical partners so you can get your elven libidos out of the way and stay focused on the mission."

Funny enough, we were never ambushed during any of these "musical" games.

For a guy that's pretty "straight-laced" when it comes to high-fantasy RPG stuff, I'm really liking AU's new races. Surprisingly, the "fuzzy" thing has not bothered me at all.
