[August] Campaign reports

In the Magic (the gathering) based campaign I'm leading, my players have managed to break free from a fake world (manabubble), set up by a powerful mage named Urza. Some of them have gone through a crisis, what with everything they ever knew being a fake, family and friends all gone.. (or are they?). They're now wandering around on an unknown continent, trying to make sense of things.

Eberron is still going strong - my guys just wrapped Temple of the Scorpion God, and I'm looking forward to starting Pit of the Fire Lord next session. In between bi-monthly Eberron sessions I'll be running a game or two of my all too infrequent Castles and Crusades Keep on the Borderlands game.

All of the heroes in my Dragonlance playtest group are now 16th level and in Palanthas, as I throw lots of high-level things at them while I write the third campaign module for the Age of Mortals trilogy, for Sovereign Press. I'm trying to work out how to shift the focus from being purely on individuals and more on how those individuals influence and control the world around them. There aren't a lot of 16th level characters on Krynn, and they certainly don't all hang out in a bar waiting for adventure.

Cheers,
Cam

A long time ago,
in a galaxy far, far away ...

[Cue the music, and scroll slowly ...]

It is a time of great turmoil for the Republic. With the defection
of the highly-respected COUNT DOOKU to the Separatists comes
a new wave of political instability. Countless systems follow his
lead, severing their ties to the Repbulic, and countless others
are filled with a flood of new Separatist agents, urging the
downfall of the Republic.

The wise Chancellor PALPATINE has ordered a secret delegation
to the TAPANI SECTOR, the intersection of several major
hyperspace routes, including the so-called "Bacta Run" from
Thyferra to the Galactic Core. Should the Tapani Sector fall
to the Separatists, their ability to cut off the supply of this most
important medical treatment would cause a galaxy-wide panic,
driving even more systems into the arms of the Separatists.

And over all, a DARK shadow lies across the FORCE ...

----------------------------------------------------------

We've now reached session 4 of our d20R Star Wars campaign!

The party has made political inroads on the captial world of the Tapani sector, including a personal invitation to a posh party thrown by an important scion of House Mecetti, who is suspected of harboring Separatist views. Although the soiree did not turn up any immediately incriminating evidence, it did give the Duros Dern, an accomplished code slicer, a chance to hunt through some of the host's personal files - revealing deep connections with at least one smuggler and several of the more vocal critics of the Republic.

Furthermore, the gallant and dashing Kalan Drin has made important underworld connections, possibly the first steps on a path leading to a major bacta smuggling operation!

All is not rose-colored glasses, however, as the two Padawans on the delegation - sent, originally, undercover - have been exposed via a series of assasination attempts, seemingly aimed at the Zabrak noble in the group (the news coverage of which made the PCs into minor celebrities, and probably resulted in the invite to the party). In the last assasination attempt, the Zabrak noble was nearly carried off by a military-class battle droid, while the majority of her entourage lay insensate, knocked out by a stun grenade. The two Padawans, meanwhile, were hard pressed by a Wookie berserker, who attacked in concert with the droid.

What more lies in store for our heroes? Why are Wookies working with Separatists? Who knew the delegation was coming and ambushed them?

All these questions - and more - will be answered! Or, will they?

THe party has wintered in Thesden and as spring comes they start to relaly figure out what they are going to do when the roads and caravans start to be used. The owner of the inn whom they have wintered with has a nice dinner for them but duiring that dinner a pair of the PCs taste blood in their wine. Fiurther tasting reveals a very good wine and a little confusion like why won't that dwarf drinbki any alchol? Anyway, one of them that tasted blood gets some odd visions and goes into asiezure., Everyone is perplexed. They try to gain some aid from people around the city, but nothing happens. A fourth vision reveals what seems to be a covered up murdfer, the party figures it out and puts it all together. They capture the innkeeper and give him tom the authorities. They fijd a safe place to take in the boy stablehand and get some compliments from a cleric and mayor.

Mayor asks them to look into some petty thefts for her. They start asking around and accidnetly frame the local seer who has a bad reputation in town anyway. There's going to be a posse going after her at some point. Oops. But they learns of a secret cavern by the town well. They send the non drinking dwarf down and he looses a fight with a snake. The bring him back up send in the ranger to take care of the snake but it actually a magic missile that kills it from the wizard. They go and pay to get the dwarf fixed up, choose to have the wizard and cleric work on making a wand of curing. The others go out and learns about some underground fighting in a place called the Pit. The half giant PC really wants to fight there and make some money, the monk might be too. They also have the chance to impress the owner of the place and get invioted to some really high pursed fights. And that's basically where we start in 18 hours. :D

My first TPK occured to my Eberron game just a few hours ago. The heroes, seeking a kidnapped Morgrave scholar ventured deep into the Blade Desert and encountered a cult of the Dragon Below(translation of the Obsidian Eye). They managed to defeat the bulk of the cult before the final showdown with the cults two leaders. The ensuing battle dropped all but one of the party, who decapitated the cult leader before the right hand woman cut him down. I gave a last chance wherein, one party member was awakened to assist in the acquisition of the Obsidian Eye. Camdon, the last man standing, managed to irrevocably lock the key behind its door before he too fell. The party slain, the foes thwarted. Bitter sweet.
