Australian TV Talks D&D!

Although Game of Thrones might not be the best setting to associate with D&D, given that Green Ronin publishes the actual Game of Thrones RPG (called A Song of Ice and Fire), D&D's mainstream coverage is continuing - this time on Australian TV network ABC. It's great to see the hobby getting attention from large news outlets.

I thought it was all fairly positive apart from the DM wearing the hooded cloak. That made me cringe. My D&D group seems to be severely lacking in pierced tattooed females though!

A bit odd that they mentioned a revival of interest, but not the new edition. On the other hand, good press is good press!

The Australian ABC is a government funded broadcaster with fairly strict rules about no advertising, even within articles. My guess is that mentioning the new edition would have crossed the line between talking about a resurgence of role playing games and advertising.

It made me cringe too. I suspect that either they asked him to wear it, or he mistakenly thought it would look cool. :(

Damnit, if I knew this was on I would have made the missus watch it. Maybe then after each session she'll stop asking me "So who won?".

very nice to see. I particularly like the coverage of the player in question, and that it highlighted why she got into D&D. Great coverage. Love seeing those shiny D&D 5 e books and the contrast to the 1e books.

Now I kind of wish I owned a hooded cloak like that...

The hood was fine. In fact, it looked great on that guy. The worst was when they said D&D is played by geeks and nerds, and in a really bad way the girl said they are disgusting. Our society is all welcoming to gays, people of other religions, or other skin colors, but not other interests and personalities. It's sad.
