Autohypnosis as Concentration effects

Cabral

First Post
The Expanded Psionics Handbook adds the skill Autohypnosis which is spiffy, but the flavor of the skill really reads as "the other half of Concentration". So I'm thinking of lopping the Autohypnosis effects into Concentration effects (maybe that's why monks have Concentration as a class skill).

Anybod done this before or can think of anything to watch out for?

Concentration is already strong for a spellcaster, so that would give the average caster a bunch of stuff for free.

Sort of. However, I disagree that Concentration is particularly powerful. I've found it more common for casters to cast away from melee or take a 5ft step then cast, as opposed to casting defensively.

Yeah, but most spellcasters (particularly wizards) will take Concentration, for those times they need to cast when they can't just step away.

Casting defensively is indeed a weak use of Concentration.

The strong uses are:
- Casting despite readied actions to shoot the caster; and
- Casting despite adverse conditions (wind, rain, acid fog, etc.).

Again I disagree, in my experience, this has rarely come up and Concentration has become a skill that all casters have but rarely use.

- Depending on the readied character, the damage can push the DC pretty far up (I'm a big fan of specialization + energy weapons or readied scorching rays)
- Driving hail (Golf ball sized ice!) has a concentration DC of 10 ... even just defaulting to a con check it's pretty easy ...

In that case, your DM has been going easy on you, not forcing you to fight in interesting locations, or ignoring the rules.

DMs can also neglect to use Undead, in which case Turn Undead is kinda useless... but that's obviously not a normal game, and not a deficit on the part of the rules.

Not really. Maybe it's because we live in Texas and thus the idea of weather harsh enough to interfere with activities being common is a little alien ... And honestly, my PCs tend deal with an enemy spell caster by dealing as much damage as possible, as quickly as possible. And continuing damage effects are fairly rare. When I play in my wife's game, I play an artificer (she's playing one in my campaign) so a lot of my casting is not under duress ... so maybe it just hasn't come up much :D
