automatic loss of memorized spells ??

First Post
Say you have a amulet of wisdom +4 (+4 to WIS) and your normal WIS score is 14

as a druid of 9th Level if you wear the amulet you can memorise 5th level spells (where previously you couldnt) and also get addiontal spells for the lower levels.

Now if you take the amulet off during the day do you automatically lose thoes extra memorised spells or do they simply become unavailable i.e. if you put the amulet back on you can still remember and cast thoes spells ?

Reason I ask is becuase Druid PHB II shapeshifter when it shift into a form, ALL equipment melds and becomes non-functional. so having any equipment to bump up your wisdom for spellcasting is useless becuase on the first shift of the day you lose all the extra spells you memorised ??

if what i suspect is correct would it in this intance be game breaking to allow the druid to keep bonus spells even after shifting since he cant cast while shifted anyway ?
or
simply allow atribute modifing equipment to stay functional while shifted ?

on a side note if neither is aceptable then I guess any druid shapeshifter will have to spend all 5 of his bonus atribute points in WIS simply to be able to cast 9th level spells when the time comes unless he's damn lucky and starts with a WIS of 17 or 18.

My take:

You still have you fifth level slots, and they still have fifth level spells in them. This means you can't actually use them until your Wis goes back up, but if you get you Wis above 15 again you are fine.

Bonus lower level spells, OTOH, do go away if you Wisdom drops, so you would lose those spells.

EDIT: At least, that's my answer per the RAW. I wouldn't actually bother to enforce the latter, for the reasons PS enumerates below.

I think that the fairest ruling is that when the item is melded you don't have access to those spells, but when it becomes unmelded they are all back there.

1) No bookkeeping. You just don't have access to the highest level spells and bonus spells while wildshaped (and your spell save DC is lower) and get them back when you're back.

2) It doesn't unduly shaft the class ability (or use of polymorph spells for wizards etc).

For the PHB II shapeshift variant of the druid I think these points are just as valid. It certainly wouldn't be 'game breaking' to allow the druid to retain his buffed spell capacity!

There is no evidense in the RAW that says you lose any spells for lowered stats (especially temporarily lowered stats).

The only listed ways to lose spells are:

1. Casting them
2. Expending them in item creation
3. Being Raised or Resurrected
4. Enervation or Energy drain, Negative levels
5. Through a class or creature ability like that of a Spellthief

If your stats are decreased you do gain less spells when preparing spells or regaining slots for the day.

If you lose spells when stats decrease is Trollform an incredibly bad spell to cast?

As mentioned earlier, there is no basis in the RAW for losing prepared spells just because you stat decreases. A prepared spell is a prepared spell. But just because you have a prepared spell does not necessarily mean you may legally cast it at this moment in time. You must obey the spells per day restriction in the class description, modified by your present spellcasting stat. And you must obey the restriction on maximum spell level based on your spellcasting stat of the moment.

Following the letter of the RAW here saves a lot of headaches when a PC steps in and out of an Anti-magic zone or when the Paladin casts Eagle's Splendor.
