How are the average hit points for a monster calculated? I can't seem to figure out the system..

Well, the average roll on a d8, for example, is 4.5. So if something has 5d8 hit dice, that's an average of 22.5 hit points... rounded down to 22.

If it has a 14 Con, then that will be 5d8 + 10, or 22 + 10, or 32.

FYI: the average roll for any die is half the size of the die plus 0.5.

And here I thought it was the highest number plus the lowest number divided with two. ;) :p

If we assume that a die has numbers from 1 to x, and only natural superseeding numbers can be used, you try and find a die or any combination thereof where those two statements are different.

Now, if Ulorian had posted exactly the same thing after your first message...?
