Average stats what are they

I'm going to be fleshing out small groups of warriors for my current campaing and wanted to have an index card for each group. They're all going to be somewhat cookie cutter npcs and fight with group tactics. So I'd like to give them all "average stats". I'm haveing a little trouble with that though. All 10-11 doesn't seem right they're occupation seems to dictate a higher str. Modern come right out and says that an Ordinaries stats are 15,15,13,12,10,8. Is this accurate?

15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 is the "standard array", which you can use for "average stats" if you wish.

However, I personally like to use 14, 14, 13, 12, 10, 10.

The standard array of stats is 10, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11, arranged to taste. Many of the normal monsters in the MM are statted using this array, with racial stat modifiers then applied. I tend to use this array for noncombatants.

If that doesn't work for the particular NPC, the "nonelite array" is 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, modified by applicable racial modifiers, which allows for an NPC with a couple good points and a couple bad points. I tend to use this array when I'm statting up ordinary soldiers, bandits, semi-elite monsters (for example, 1st level evil clerics) and so on.

The "elite array" is 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, modified by applicable racial modifiers. I use this for, well, elite forces. The baron's elite heavy cavalry, the orc chief's personal guards, the hobgoblin tribes elite wolf riders and so on.

Unique NPCs I usually roll stats or assign a point value (like, say 25, 28, or 32 depending on how tough I think the NPC should be) and point buy them, adjusted by racial modifiers. The orc chief, the hobgoblin king, and so on will be put together using this method.
