AVP Trailer

Despite the dire "butt rock" predictions of this movie, the latest preview, which I've seen twice now in front of two different movies (King Arthur and I, Robot) AVP actually looks like it could be pretty good. The special effects look good, the action looks good, the music is not butt rock and the story doesn't seem any more far-fetched or ridiculous than either of the original Predator or Alien movies. I also saw a new preview for Sky Captain which looks really good; I've been disappointed in the delays for that one, though. I mean, the book's already out...

AvP looks like it could be the surprise of the year movie, especially for those people who have never heard of the comics or the video games to show how much history is between these two alien races who hate each other, and us, so much.

I'm going to be first in line when this movie comes out.

Yeah, what is it, three weeks from today? I'll probably take a "long lunch hour" and pick it up that day. I need to watch my Predator movies again, though. I just saw Aliens recently, but I haven't pulled out my Predator DVDs since I bought them.

The only thing I am upset with is how it looks like they are trouncing the history that has been established in the crossover novels and comics. If this movie takes place in future (not sure how far?) why do a) we not know about the predators and b) why have the negotiations not started? Can anybody tell me, timeline wise, when the first marine trained with the predators. I remember it being a woman but I thought it was in the near future after the first alien contact. I could be wrong, because I remember the books coming out after the earth had been taken over by the hive, but I wasn't sure if they were going in any set order.

Either way, the movie doesn't look bad, I would have rathered it gone witht he original plot about the predator cubscouts (basically) but this has some promise. I will go see it because I want to see more movies in the series and I *really* want to see an alien vs. predator done right at some point with the humans and predator kicking royal jelly.

Do the novels and comics have anything at all to do with the movie other than sharing a title? I didn't get that vibe; this looked to be very near future. Why should the screenwriters feel compelled to follow a comic book / genre novel series anyway?

Well, along those lines why should the screenwriters feel compelled to make a batman movie that follows the comics at all or a spiderman, heck why even make it spider*man* and not spider*girl* and have doctor octopus be a real mutant octopus? Or why someone making romeo and juliet should follow the play. The point is that the Alien and predator creators have always had a very close tie. You can see aliens in predator II (or alien anyway). All of the comics by darkhorse (at least those in the actual continuum and not the batman crossover universe) have held very tightly to the books and the movies. This movie, like it or not, is part of a larger series and should take that into consideration. I am just afraid they have taken what was a very rich world and environment and turned it into jason vs freddy type of fan service horror drivel.

Now, having said that, I do not think they should have to stay dogmatic and it is ok to seperate yourself from the source material (reason I didn't have problems with xmen like some). I will go see it and see how they pulled it off. I would just *also* like to see another movie in the same universe/continuity that the other 6 movies have been in.

The idea behind this movie is to provide the answers of how the company knew about the Aliens from the very beginning in the first Alien movie and also tie in the Predators using Aliens for their ultimate hunt.

I think this is about a few 'teenage' or soon to be adult warrior hunters who use the pyramid and its nearby area as a final training grounds and they use the Aliens as their Ultimate hunt...I don't know if they were expecting humans to discover it but by the trailers it seems as if the predators use humans for the aliens to breed in so they can then hunt the Aliens down, but that's what I am getting from the trailer.

This movie has no tie in at all with the comics or the video games and is set as a movie to tie in Predator movies with the Alien movies universe.

The original script took place way in the past with the predator cub scouts (sorry, just can't get my mind off that, in a good way, think it's an interesting take) sending the aliens to earth and then going in to stay a few days and if they survived they would become adults. It called for a lot of predator dialogue which I haven't seen any indication of in this movie. I hope they keep in and don't just turn predators into monsters, which they aren't. They are a noble race that once humans proved that they were intelligent beings and not just animals were offered friendship and alliance with the predators. Besides, the second predator already tied the two series together;P

However, if this is to explain how the company knew about the aliens then that will be a nice touch and take place long before the predators offered their treaty.

Also, whereas most of the video games went way off track according to the novels, the darkhorse was really close and fun at the same time. I think it was for the genesis maybe, can't remember, but you got to choose whether you were a marine, a predator, or a ranger (the marines trained by the predators).
