As mentioned in the ThursdayKnights thread, I watched a skill challenge, week before last, that the TK group held where the DM kept matters moving along around the table through the use of an sandglass style egg-timer.
I don't run 4E, but I do use the skill challenge mechanic in my Star Wars:SE campaign. I thought the use of the sand timers might be cool.
After some discussion and looking around, I decided that it made the most sense to pick up five timers for game use, all of which are manufactured/sold by Koplow Games. Koplow sells a lot of attractive tubes of dice as well - you are probably familiar with some of their products.
There were several merchants online that carried the timers, but after shipping, the cost ranged from about $24.00 to as high as $44.00. I'm in Canada, so shipping costs are one of the things that consistently hose us - and that's why the FLGS is alive and well here in Canada.
Long story short: I called my FLGS, in this case 401 Games in Toronto, and inquired about the products. 401 said they had never carried sandtimers, but that their distributor did carry them. They'd get some in for me.
Less than 48 hours later, 401 Games had 2 complete sets of five timers in the store for me. I purchased one set of five of them in the following time increments: 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds, 120 seconds and 180 seconds. Total cost? $9.75 for all five.
Now that's a FLGS!! Significantly cheaper than the cheapest online source (after shipping is taken into account) and in the store FASTER than I could have recieved them online, too. No "pay me first before I order them". No "we'll see" or "I'll ask the manager". None of that. A phone call and BOOM - in the store less than 48 hours later.
