B&G 2 Query: MOS Feats

I'm not sure how to use MOS feats during character creation, do they:

Replace occupations

or

Stack with occupations

or

Have nothing to do with occupations

So how do, MOS feats work?

MOS Feats are exactly that: feats. They work a lot LIKE starting occupations, but are different in a couple of ways.

1: you only gain MOS Feats at any time you would be able to select a feat. You cannot use an MOS Feat to replace an occupation when creating your character. You can only select a starting occupation when creating your character. Most Blood & Guts characters will probably have Starting Occupation: Military.

2: You can gain multiple MOS feats. You can only have one starting occupation.

If I recall correctly, any skill bonuses gained from starting occupation and MOS feats are named. If they are the same name (and I think they are), then those bonuses certainly don't stack.

Roudi is correct... MOS feats are simply feats that represent the continuing training opportunities enjoyed by those who serve in the military.

As such they are occupations of a sort, but you select them with feats.

I think they cause a little confusion because the d20M occupation is a bit of a misnomer imo... its really more of a background than an occupation since you can select only one and it has nothing to do with how your character makes a living.

It sounds like MOS feats are equivalent to the advanced occupations found in Gangland? Can you take a MOS feat multiple times like the advanced criminal occupations?

(I don't have Blood & Guts 2 yet.)

You could take any one particular MOS feat multiple times, but it wouldn't have a stacking effect. You could take several different MOS feats, however.

You can take each MOS feat only once.

However there is the MOS mastery feat which allows you an extra class skill from your MOS, a bonus to a single MOS class skill equal to your Reputation and a bonus to promotion checks.

Chuck, it's kind of ambiguous as to WHEN you take the MOS Feats though. You're bonus feats are determined by your MOS, but you have to use a feat slot to get a MOS, so you can't take it at 3rd level of those classes, which means you have to take it prior to that. Flavor-wise, it wouldn't make sense to take one with regular character feat slot before actually taking a military class, so the assumption then must be that when you are either 1st or 2nd level of your military class you will be at character level 3 to get a regular feat slot....

can you just clarify this a little, please?

thanks!

You can take one whenever you want, there's no magic time to take it.

Keep in mind the MOS doesnt just add to your bonus feat list if you take a class from BNG II.

If you took an MOS and stayed in your basic class, you still get bonus feats, and you MOS would still expand the range of those bonus feats.
