Babies and Wet-Nurses: A Conversation

Justice cracks a smile at the mention of "lesser warriors," fully believing that her Grandfather or Uncle could teach Archonus a lesson or two, but says nothing.

"Then, maybe it would be best to have a wetnurse here in Hyrwl for the first few weeks of the child's life? Until she could be sustained by cows milk?"

"I think you and Justice are arguing about different things," Xath steps in. "Archonus' arguement is based in the idea that we as the circle will be based mostly here in Hyrwl, or in another safe environment. We would leave on appointed missions, but there's no need to be gone for the weeks and months that we used to." A pause. "Justice's arguement is based on the premise that we will still go 'adventuring' for weeks or months at a time in scenarios effaced with constant dangers. And it would be very difficult to be effective at this sort of lifestyle with an infant. However, I don't think either of you is entirely correct, nor are you incorrect. While there is no way to predict what we will be doing on any given day, I think it is safe to assume that most of the time we will be based out of Hyrwl, here. After all, we all have permanent residences in the viscinity and we use them regularly. Archonus is correct in that we do go on short missions which can be very violent in nature. I don't believe he's advocating taking the child in these times. However, Justice is correct in saying that sometimes circumstances such as our dealings with the Bluestar and Khaz Barok occasionally take us away for extended periods. I do not think that Archonus would take his child into these situations either. However, there are certain times when actively maintaining his paternal relationship would not be an issue. Times when we are here, obviously. Also, long term military campaigns should not be an issue. There are plenty of non-military personel who follow a camp and who are safe throughout the campaign, barring absolute defeat.

Our magical abilities would suggest that we could sleep in Hyrwl every night should we have a need. I think noone is advocating taking an infant on short term circle missions. And thus there should be no reason to send the child away with someone else. What seems to be the problem?"

DM NOTE - Don't get too attached to Hyrwl. I'm not going to blow it up, but precious little of the rest of the story will be set here.

You have other places to explore!

The general point was that we'll still have a place to call home.

Yep - but remember that the Queen wants the child kept away from there (so that if something does happen to the city, an heir remains). That's why they're being seperated in the first place.

So we can choose a new Circle HQ, like Caer Albion since it will need to be repaired and reworked, physically as well as socially and economically.

Yep. That could work.

Or you could take her to an isolated cottage, a la Sleeping Beauty, or you could build a stronghold in the depths of a volcano, and keep her there.

It doesn't matter, so long as you retain the freedom to move as necessary, and the child and its unknowing brother are not able to be closely linked.
