babsitters and gaming

Anyway, yeah, if you have to play while in possession of a <1 year old, then it's daytime games for you. They can tell when you have friends over at night. I cannot endorse getting a babysitter (or "babsitter," if you are Nathal) for a game, since that is money that could be put toward more BOOKS and MINIS. Nathal, do you have a group lined up in Delaware? It seems like it would be tough to find a new one, willing to admit the wee ones. You may be stuck with PbP for a while.

After reading all of these success stories, I believe my main problem is that I work seventy hours a week and we're trying to game in too limited a time-frame. We could probably find some success playing a game on a Sunday afternoon, but as it approaches nighttime my daughter gets fussy and wants mommy's undivided attention. Unfortunately I work almost every Sunday and I don't get home until about dinner-time. We do have a nighttime routine; mealtime, bath, winding down period (quiet nursing with mommy), and then bed. To try to incorporate a one or two hour game into this routine doesn't work.

I don't have a group lined up in Delaware, but most of our friends are up north and many of them have children, so it will likely be easier in the future. Anyway, I enjoyed reading all of the success stories gaming with kids. It will all work out eventually, we've just got to find our "groove". And yeah, maybe even get the occasional "babsitter" for the Bab. Heh.

I think this post is tongue in cheek, but on the off chance that it's not, WTF?!? Nightime games are the way to go so the kid can sleep and not be all over the game. Daytime games are impossible with a toddler.

Of course, by <1 year old, you cover a fair amount of ground. A non-mobile infant is unlikely to cause much disruption at a game unless he's a really noisy one.

Truth. When it was just our eldest, it was pretty much transparent for the first year or so. The biggest disruption was that my wife would sit just out of sight to nurse her, so couldn't see the battle map.

Could be worse. I knew a girl (and she really was a girl--under 18, IIRC) who used to just pull up her shirt, and she wouldn't wear a bra, to nurse her baby. It was kinda like "uh... do you really need to show us both your boobs to nurse?"

Of course, I think there was a little more going on there than just nursing. She was kinda psycho.

Erm... Man, I should fork this to CM.

I need a babysitter to watch some of the players at conventions ;)

Pardon me; we clearly have different styles. My son will not sleep with other people in the house. So it's gotta be daytime with him.

As I wrote in an earlier post, my friend with a toddler plays night games. It seems to be a function of age.

To me, this seems about as tragic as free beer.

We took the kids with us when they were smaller. As they got a little older we dropped them off with Grandma and Grandpa. Our gaming sessions were Saturday afternoons, so it wasn't like it was a late night.

Now, my wife no longer games - she just never got all that into it, so it isn't much of an issue. Of course the fact that my gaming group just fell apart last week also makes it less of an issue as well.
