Hmmm. Well, I guess that depends on what you're treating as cantrips---the ones from UA, or are you using SRD 3.x cantrips?
Ah. You are correct. In my own games, I've gotten used to the SRD spell list...even before that existed, Read Magic and Detect Magic were always spells I counted as part of basic/fundamental training to any magic-user.
If you want to play a strict (cantrip-less) 1e game, then sure count them as 1st level spells. But I'd still give them to you, without taking any of your starting 3 slots.
So, ignoring those for the nonce, a few quick rolls from DMG page 39 sets Manzare'en's spellbook as follows: roll 7 on Offensive = Push, 9 on Defensive = Ventriloquism, roll 3 on Misc = Erase
Cantrips: ?
First Level: Read Magic, Detect Magic, Push, Ventriloquism, Erase
Ha! That's a perfect "no significance" set of spells on the surface. A creative caster could use these to great effect, I think.
We'd need to know Manzare'en's Int to know his chance to learn additional spells, as well as the minimum and max he can learn for each level, and the max level spells he can cast.
Yes, of course. If you want to roll up stats, I'm all for it! Feel free to post them here.
Unfortunately, I don't have time for that, but I would be happy to snag this group of PCs as an NPC party for my random encounters in Castle Greyhawk, if no one has any objections?![]()
Not from me! Was thinking of using it as an NPC party in my own setting as well. Be interested in hearing how you incorporate them and what happens if/when they're encountered.
Sorry you don't have the time for it...I doubt anyone else does either. Was just throwing the idea out there.
