I stopped even reading the troll polls when the "Should Trolls be flame-retardant?" came out. I reported that post, I didn't appreciate the slanderous name calling.

The only thing I can see is that this section is 3 pages in the Basic rules (presumably identical text), and 5 pages in the PHB, so that gives us an idea of how much art there is?

Good point. For that matter "Character details" is only 4 pages long, buried in the middle of the book. I thought the whole PH(B) was character details. Is this some kind of bait and switch?

I'll bet they've completely forgotten to include the Amnesiac background.

Every PC should have the option of choosing a background which says "You have no idea who you are, or why you're here. Brief flashes of an earlier life permeate the blackened fog of your mind, and you struggle to make sense of them.". They could roll to remember random skills, tool proficiencies or languages.

If WotC have left it out, they must surely want 5e to fade away.

Don't forget the "Everyone Close to Me is Dead" and "Cool Looking Badass Loner" backgrounds. Oh, and "Pretty Much Me with a Sword." That's popular, too.

I prefer "Pretty Much Me with Spells". I know how to use a sword, so I like to have a chance to role play.
