Bad art is curing my Scarred Lands addiction!

I have never bought or not bought a book soley on my opinion of the art in the book, but art and other astectic qualties of the book have been "straw factors," in my decision. That is the final nudge to buy something or not.

To me, art only comes into play when I am "impulse buying." But that is rare now. I usualy head to my FLGS with a short list of what books I want to buy, then I choose a subset of that list depending on what is there and my current level of "need/desire."

After my neigh 30 years of buying gaming materials, I have games with all kinds of art, good and bad. And the qualtiy of art is IMO independent of the quality/value/use of the book in question.

Now, what will get me more is not the good/bad of the art itself, but the appropreateness of the art. Art sets the mood and tone of the book. That is more of the case of a unfortunate Art Editor choice and not with the piece itself. In the 4th Ed Ars Magic book, there are a few pieces that got some heavy criticism not because of the quality of the piece, (which were techincaly very well done) but that they broke the "mood" of the book.
