[Bad Axe Games] Looking for an evangelist or three...

Excellent stuff, as usual, from Bad Axe!

Here's why
1) Useful : with the spreadsheet, you can create random creatures on the fly.
Where else do we have that? Sure, templates are great but a true randomizer?

2) Fun : I love generating stuff and see what comes up, just like rolling on the
tables in the old days. If it's not something I like, keep rolling...

3) Creative : inspires creativity. For instance, I just created a "Jumping Tasty
Hugger" and instantly had the picture in my mind of a quick Koala-type creature
....that's tasty - and with fast-healing???? It made me think of the
genetically engineered pig in "Restaurant at the End of the Universe" that
pointed out the best parts for you to consume. Now my mind is starting
to create it's history/ecology/etc.

The pdf is nice and hints at lots more (could it be "Grim Tales .... in Space!!!!!")

Only two issues:
1) All the generation is done in password-protected Excel sheets --- I can't
generate them at the game table (without lugging my laptop with me.)
My guess is that the full tables would be in the work that this is a supplement of.

2) This one's not really an issue -- the pdf is a teaser for the bigger work.
We have 1 vehicle and I want to see all the possibles/scanning equipment/options.
Also want to see what all the Directives are....what's 1 and 2 that the Cap's follow?
Eighth is the "Prime" but what are the others. So......now I want to buy the
bigger work that this is a subset of....where is it???? :heh:

So, to recap -- love the crunch that I've come to adore from Grim Tales/Bad Axe games,
but would love the facts and figures behind it. Fluff is perfect as is and really
sets the stage for some Magnum Opus to come.

Thanks Wulf!!

All the creatures are built using the rules laid out in the Creature Creation chapter of Grim Tales.

We randomize the name first, and work from there downwards generating size, hit dice, ability scores, attack routines, and special attacks/qualities, then concatenate all the text and numeric data into a clean statblock.

The programming was done, "brute force," as I like to call it, and believe me, unhiding the cells wouldn't show you anything you want to see. It's not pretty behind the curtain.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Maybe I'm easily amused ( wait.....shiny metal ... be right back....)
but I love the creature generator and haven't seen anything like it
before - with all the trimmings of CR, hp, attacks, etc. How come?
To me, this is an innovation and a huge selling point.

Still, the randomizer is an excellent feature and, imo, would make for excellent
charts, how-to pages, etc. to supplement the CC chapter.

The innovation was the mathematical approach to building a CR. Once you have the math, the programmatical part of the problem is easy (relatively... no slight to the app developer).

And I like the generator as well. I want more 'tweak' control, like everyone else, but the pure random nature of the generation has its creative benefits as well. Maybe v2.0?

Honestly, is there no pleasing you people? The GT Creature Creation chapter is all charts, but folks felt it was too complicated, so I gave you an excel spreadsheet to do it for you.

Now I give you an excel spreadsheet-- and everybody wants a print version of tables and charts!

Well I was kinda holding out for a d20 Dragonball Z game using the Grim Tales rules for a true "Dragonball GT" RPG. :p

That and life size working Apparatus of Kwalish to play with.
