But you have COMPLETELY MISSED THE POINT. The point being that in previous editions the gray bag of tricks was not a combat item, and now it is.

In previous editions I've only ever seen the bag of tricks used as a combat item. Since it was a rubbish one it was usual thrown away.

So your anecdote is cancelled by my anecdote.

The rules are there to provide a clear explanation of what the item does and then leave the way open for it to be used in a believable manner outside that. Nothing stops you from using the 4th ed bag in the same manner as you used previous bags of tricks but now the creatures have been beefed up so they actually serve a purpose.

4th ed is designed to be played by new players who aren't sure what they are doing. There are INTENTIONALLY no bad choices. This is not the same as you put "so that the dull-witted players don't have to worry about their brains overheating figuring out what to do with it." which is just rude and narrow minded of you.

Without desiring to take sides, you're only proving the previous poster more correct; your exact example there on "no bad choices" only works in combat. The problem said poster has is that the item wasn't meant to be used in combat, and your defense seems to be "Well, it's good in combat now!"

And we're done. We're not about to put up with the edition battles. If you can't find a way to discuss the topic at hand without bringing the merit of another edition into it, then please hit the "back" button conveniently located on your browser.
