Balancing fast healing

If you're going to give a Con penalty equal to twice the fast healing number, I'd make it no level adjustment. Sure at low levels that is only a hit point or so, but at low levels a hit point or three can make a huge difference in any fight where you get hit more than once.

I'm currently playing a paladin 2 / Afflicted Black Werebear / Warshaper 4. I am an 11th level very high STR melee machine with fast healing 2. But Fast healing doesn't help when you're regularly being hit for between 25-35 every other round. All it means is that healing up after fights is easier/cheaper, but small amounts don't help much in the middle of the fight. It's the equivalent of having 20 extra HP in a 10 round fight. Considering most fights last much less than that, it isn't nearly as impressive as some of you make it out to be.

That was my original thought. But gamecat, the Jester and Sigurd didn't seem to think that was a good idea at all. However, since Ferrix posted his analysis, I wonder if I should have been persuaded so quickly.

Side question Cheiromancer, did you go to university in Rochester?

No- in Edmonton and Toronto. But I teach philosophy at St. John Fisher College in Rochester.

[edit]It's my first semester there- I haven't even met all the people in my department, let alone those at RIT or the U of R. I teach intro and basic logic. My own specialty is philosophy of mind- consciousness and AI.[/edit]

What branches? I went to RIT for two years, started in Mechanical Engineering and ended up leaving since they didn't have a Philosophy program. Would you happen to know John Capps, Timothy Engstrom and Brian Schroeder? Favorite professors of mine in the phil. department at RIT.

Since I dug out RaceCalc for another thread, I looked up it's appraisal of fast healing... +0.5 Considering that most Fast healing monsters have a lot of other abilities, this may be taking it out of context. Just thought I'd offer the extra bit of info though :D
