Bambi DVD - Why should I buy?

Or when Flower grabs the gun and fires those three perfect shots around the corner without looking... great cinematography. Good stuff.

Great. Now I've got images of a cute skunk proclaiming "No power in the 'verse can stop me" in my mind. Thanks. :)

I'd rather have fox and the hound

Fox and Hound would be a better bet for classic Disney movies. That bear scared the bejeezus out of me.

Or, as someone already mention, Incredibles should be out soon.

Wait another couple of weeks for the Incredibles...
Didn't really care for it.

I don't know if you have kids, but if you do, I consider Bambi one of the critical elements of parenthood.

You simply must have an answer ready when your 4 yr old asks "where's Bambi's mommy?"

PS
Actually I do not, I am a 28 year old single white male and have trouble finding a date with members of the opposite gender...

Yeah, but that scene where Bambi is talking to the mob guy's henchman, and is trying to make peace, and the henchman says, "I'm going to hunt you down, and someday, someday, I'll be there when you least expect it, and then BAM," and Bambi goes "Darn" and then kicks the henchman into the ship's engine... that's freakin' awesome.

Or that part where Thumper is going to get sucked out of the ship's bay, and is shouting, and when Bambi comes back to check and Thumper asks what Bambi is going to tell the others, and then goes on to say, "You tell them a lie. Don't tell 'em what I did," and you realize that under that gruff exterior, Thumper realizes that he's gone too far and is having stirrings of conscience... that just doesn't get done well enough these days.

Or when Flower grabs the gun and fires those three perfect shots around the corner without looking... great cinematography. Good stuff.
Wow!!! Someone has an overactive imagination!

Never seen it.

Anyway thanks for the replies folks! I've decided to hold off for now anyway. Maybe in a month or two!

I'd say don't get it now- wait for it on a deal, sale or just not the top dollar amount. You have to get it at some point though. It's a classic, and tells a classic story that our kids and our kids kids will like, understand and be entertained by it.

Right now, it's under $16 at walmart.

It'll go up next week, I'm sure.

I never saw Bambi as a child, but I just watched it. A few thoughts:
  • It is beautiful. Beautiful backgrounds. Beautiful animation.
  • It is very much a family movie, even moreso than most Disney films. I suppose it appeals most to new parents and to young children.
  • I was expecting Bambi's mother's death to be traumatic, and it was, but (a) it came much later in the movie than I'd assumed, and (b) they didn't dwell on it; we soon cut to Bambi as a young adult with antlers.
  • You could easily interpret the film as an anti-hunting piece. Man, those hunting dogs were creepy.
  • The voice-acting and music are very 1942.

Seconding Fox and the Hound. It's a very, very good story. I'd say it's at least partly responsible for my attitude towards loyalty in friendships.

Hey, don't forget the first law of geekdom: It's cool to be unimpressed by stuff that everyone likes.

You shouldn't rescind his geek license. You should upgrade it. :)
