Baneful weapon ability...

First Post
Here's another ability I have in my notes, but I never fully fleshed it out.

Baneful
A weapon with this ability is capable of dealing more damage than normal. A baneful weapon is treated as being one size category larger for the purposes of damage, though all other statistics of the weapon are unchanged. For example, a medium dagger would deal 1d6 points of damage, a medium longsword would deal 2d8 points of damage and a medium greataxe would deal 3d6 points of damage.
Strong transmutation; CL 12th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, keen edge; Price: ????.

I was thinking of pricing this at a +4 bonus. What do you folks think? BTW, if you can think of a better name, I'd appreciate it. I can easily see this being confused with some kind of variant of bane.

Never a +4 bonus, the extra damage is not worth that much. If you just take the raw +4 bonus you get that added to your damage and to your chance to hit.

Maybe a +2.

But a good idea, I have something similar in my campaign.

It gives extra damage. The highest possible damage raise is 1d8 more damage I think for medium weapon, which is a bit more than any energie magical abilities. It is more difficult to get protected from those damage, because protection from elements is useless. To recieve no damage, you'll need one big protection instead of two weaks, which is more harder to have.

So I would suggest +2 or +3, but surely not +1, and +4 seems a bit too high.

Suggested name: Migthy

the best is when it's used on scythes *groan*, 2d8X4? 8d8! 36 damage on average, opposed to 8d6 which is an average of 24 IMMIR even so it's two more avrage damage without the crit.

First of all, the same can be said of any damage dealing or damage affecting ability that scales with the weapon, such as flaming burst or keen.

Secondly, I've never been witness to a horde of players all salivating over a scythe, so I'm not concerned. :)
