banishment duration?

ok wehad this question come up tonight. if a creature is Dismissed of banished from you home plane how long is it gone for before the are allowed to return? it doen't really say esspcially when said being may be able to gate back. didn't it use to be in 1st os 2nd that it was like a year and a day or something to that effect.

The spell doesn't say anything about them not being able to return. Reading literally, I'd say they can return immediatly, if able

Of course, they'd need to have plane shift themselves to come back. Looking at the SRD, none of the demons and devils except the bebilith (!) have this. A friendly spellcaster could use planar binding/ally, but that would take some time.
