Banishment on PCs?

My party woke up in the middle of the night and the city that we're in is a mess. There's no one around, there's a volcano where the harbour should be, and the entire city appears to be deserted. We thinking that we've somehow ended up on another plane - a layer of the Abyss.

So what what I'm wondering is, if I cast Banishment on the PCs, then myself, should we end up back on the Material Plane? I'm thinking yes, but I'd like some other input.

I'm thinking no because it says it allows you to banish creatures from your home plane. And I'm guessing where you are now is not home.

Curiously, the lowly Dismissal doesn't have that restriction.... although there is that pesky 20% chance of ending up not at home... when you're casting it four or five times.... Doesn't the party Cleric have Plane Shift?

You maen planes shift and the focus? Planeshifting back home is not an option unless you plan for it.

A small, forked metal rod. The size and metal type dictates to which plane of existence or alternate dimension the spell sends the affected creatures.

Dismissal's 20% chance of a random plane is pretty bad... though you might be able to planar ally the character back if your DM is being a push over. But since it seems like he wants you in the Abyss I doubt risk is worth it.

Spell Component Pouch: A spellcaster with a spell component pouch is assumed to have all the material components and focuses needed for spellcasting, except for those components that have a specific cost, divine focuses, and focuses that wouldn’t fit in a pouch.
A small fork? Would probably fit. No listed cost.

Edit: Also, he doesn't really need the prime material - you don't have to go home in the first step. You just need to get somewhere you can build/find/buy the particular one you need.
