Bard Games Compleat Alchemist reminder

Baron Opal

First Post
Could someone remind me what the different goods an alchemist made at each level? I have an obscene gaming memory, and I could probably reconstitute the book for myself with a few hints. If I recall correctly it goes something like...

1st: Draughts - Really minor potions, 1d4 healing, etc.
4th: Dusts - Draughts that could effect a small area, some offensive items.
5th: Potions - The actually useful liquid preparations
6th: Amulets - Making an amulet out of a metal, gem, and diagram, and it does something
Xth: True iron, lead, etc.
Yth:Constructs
Zth: Artificial life

As I mentioned in another thread I'm making an alchemist class and I have discovered that I sold off my Compleat Alchemist at some time in the past, darn it.

Just so everyone knows...

before the d20 thing, Bard Games made three books that were in essence, compatible with D&D. The Compelte Adventuer, Complete Spellcaster and Complete Alchemist.

WoTC, when they were doing Talislanta and other RPG bits like Primal Order, reprinted the Complete ALchmest, but in my opinion, butchered it's compatiblity. What's worse is that they never came out with the Complete Necromancer...at least at the time.

I was just re-reading parts of this book over the weekend---good timing for your Q Baron Opal :D

Here's the levels of the alchemical creations:

  • Level 1 - Concoctions (easy)
  • Level 2 - Toxic Powders (easy)
  • Level 3 - Compounds and Venoms (easy)
  • Level 4 - Devices (moderate)
  • Level 5 - Talismans (moderate)
  • Level 6 - Potions (moderate)
  • Level 7 - Dusts (difficult)
  • Level 8 - Solvents (difficult)
  • Level 9 - Gasses (difficult)
  • Level 10 - Essences (very difficult)
  • Level 11 - Constructs (very difficult)
  • Level 12 - Homunculi (very difficult)
  • Level 13 - Advanced Operations (very difficult)
  • Level 14 - Philosopher's Stone (maximum difficulty)

FYI, this is the list from the 2nd edition republished by WotC; I have a copy of the 1e version, but it's not as handy. If you want a comparison, let me know :D
