Bards armor proficiency

According to the class description in the 3.5 SRD, Bards are proficient with light armor and shields, except tower shields. But according to the description of the feat Armor Proficiency(Medium), bards gain medium armor proficiency as a bonus feat and need not choose it.

So is the feat description just a cut-and-paste relic from 3.0? Or is the misprint in the class description? Do Bards begin play proficient with medium armors?

Not according to the 3.5 PHB, so I'm betting it's a misprint in the SRD.
