Base classes with Gather Info as a class skill

In our Eberron campaign, the warlock seems to have the most success at Gather Info. Even though there's a charismatic rogue in the party. :)

It's the "I can keep doing this all day you know" attitude that makes people want to please the warlock.

Yeah, I think he spent one entire day zapping cockroaches.

But the real reason for the rogue's lack of success at Gather Information is that he seems to have written Gather Inebriation on his character sheet instead.

I believe that's it.

Damn, I think you're right. Slim pickin's. I made bards into a PrC (as in UA), and I was looking for an official WotC base class to replace it. I don't use OA or psionic characters, so maybe I should take another look at the Spellthief.

What is it you're looking for exactly?

Ideally, just more than one class option that will grant Gather Information as a class skill. I can compensate for a lot of what the Bard does with the Marshal, but Gather Info isn't covered.

Don't worry about it, is my advice. Anyone with charisma can Gather Information (see warlock example above), and characters who want to specialize in the "social skills" can be rogues (or part-rogues).

Find ways for other classes to gain the benefits of gather info.
From the Eberron Campaign Setting book, pg. 52
Ecclesiarch [general]

You command a degree of respect in your church's hiearchy.

Prerequisite: Knowledge(religion) 6 ranks.
Benefit: Add Gather Information and Knowledge(local) to your list of class skills. This benefit represents your ability to learn details about any community from the clergy of its churches.
In addition, if you take the Leadership feat, you gain a +2 bonus to your Leadership score.
You can also create spells like Rumor Rummagings which can access information, lore, and news about a community within the Long range of the divination as if you had the bardic knowledge class ablility. You would use your caster level as the bard level for bardic knowledge, which stacks with any of your other classes that has the bardic knowledge class ability. You can also add your intelligence bonus as an insight bonus to your Knowledge(local) skill and social skills (Gather Information, Diplomacy, Sense Motive, etc.) when dealing with members of this community. In addition, you can speak and understand the languages used in this community.

Then there's the generic classes from Unearthed Arcana (warrior, expert, spellcaster.) Any of them could have Gather Information as a class ability.

True, Gather Info DC's aren't generally very high anyway. Knowledge (local) grants a synergy bonus... /shrug
