basic question about spell durations

As I have just started playing v3.5, I have a very basic question about spell durations.

If a spell's effects (i.e. color spray) affects a target in an adverse way (ie. stun) for a single round, when do the stun effects leave the target? Do the spell effects stay until the caster's next round/action? Or do the stun effects stay until the target's next round/action?

Sorry if this is covered in the basic books, but I haven't been able to find it on the spell duration section of the PHB. Thanks in advance.

The effect starts when the caster casts the spell and lasts a round. Thus, it ends just before the initiative count of the caster who cast the spell.

Example: A cleric has an initiative of 10. A rogue has an initiative of 8. An orc opponent has an initiative of 5. The cleric, on initiative count 10, casts Command on an orc and orders it to "Die". The orc slumps to the floor. The rogue moves in and attacks the orc, delivering sneak attack damage. On initiative count 5, it is the orc's turn to act, but it's unconscious.
Second round: Just before the cleric's turn to act, the orc wakes up. The cleric acts. The rogue acts. The orc acts.
