[Batman] Well, finally...

Problem is, by the time Tom Welling looks old enough to play an adult Superman, he may well be too old to keep up with the part. He's 26 years old already, and he's still playing a high schooler. Christopher Reeve was younger than that when he first played Superman as an adult. Welling's just got too much of a baby-face to play Superman, IMO.

It is all in the makeup, dress, etc.

Good casting choice for The Batman. Hopefully when they state that they are going earlier in hte career of the bat, that they really mean they are going on a story based movie and not stupid gadgets and poorly written villians. They should read the comics and watch the Dark Knight cartoons.

I couldn't be happier. Well, I could if they'd have gotten Guy Pearce. But outside
of that, really happy I am. He is british, which of course Bats isn't, but since he did
the whole New York Playboy/Nutcase so well in American Psycho (brilliant film!!) I'm
quite ready to dismiss that (after all, being a yank doesn't really play that much
into Bats' character, unlike say, Supes). Heck if he just does the whole American
Psycho thing with a bit more subtebly and a dash of his passion in Reign of Fire,
he has the Frank Miller Batman down perfectly.

Seeing that they settled for Bale (wonderful choice), WB seems to have abandoned any thoughts of rebooting the franchise with an origin flick, and simply telling a story without needing to explain the whole enchilada (kinda like X-Men 1, where we start in media res).

I'm confused. What does the casting of Christian Bale have to do with rebooting or not rebooting the franchise? Personally, I'd prefer it if they would reboot the thing. I don't want to see a sequel to Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. *shudder* I want to see an all-new Batman franchise starting from scratch. After all, the origin story takes what, about 5 minutes to explain? It's not like X-Men, in which you have to explain the whole world, with mutants and all that. Just gotta explain this short little event which transformed Bruce Wayne's life from a happy kid to Batman.

Besides, reboot it, and we'll be able to see a take on villains like Two-Face or Bane which is actually GOOD.

Although I have never seen American Psycho, I love the work Christian Bale did in Equilibrium(spl) and Reign of Fire. I'm sure he can do a good Bruce Waye/Batman.

As for rebooting the series, I'm all for it IF they make a trilogy out of it and use the same actor for all three movies

The WB's original plan was to cast a younger actor to portray Bruce Wayne in a new origin movie. That's what I meant with "reboot". By going with Bale (who is older than what was first intended), they abandon the idea of a new origin movie and instead focus on telling a story with Batman already established (maybe throwing a re-cap to refresh the audience's minds).

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a Year One movie reboot the franchise, and then see new versions of Joker, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Catwoman and all.

And Joel Schumacher must be locked in a shoe box for the rest of his natural life... :)

R'as is an excellent choice of villain; he's one of the few world domination villains Batman has. The rest are just nuts. R'as is too, but he has what he sees are excellent reasons.

For those of you who don't know, R'as (at least in the comics) wants to kill off most of the people on Earth because he sees them as parasites destroying the planet. He's the ultimate eco-freak and has the power, money and will to carry it out. He's very much like what Batman might have been like had he gone 'bad', since aside from his discovery of a way to ressurect himself he's a normal guy with a lot of training. He also has a daughter that has a major crush on Bats. :)

Too bad we probably won't see a Robin in this movie, nor probably for one or two more to come.

Either way, it doesn't matter to me so long as the new movie DOESN'T follow off the previous 4.

And yes, Joel Schumacher needs to suffer greatly for what he's done to the Batman franchise. Speaking of Schumacher, here's pretty much what Garth Ennis, the former writer of the DC title Hitman, thinks about his work.
