Battelstar Galactica in Sweden, worth watching?

Hmm. Does the viewing experience in Sweden be any different than the viewing experience in the US ... even Hawaii?

You should watch it, even though the re-imagined version is a far different cry from the original 70's series.

BTW, how can the name "Battlestar Galactica" sound cheesy? I don't know how it is translated in Swedish.

The viewing experience would not be different, just current. My guess is US citizens have already seen it (for the first time). Moreover, there are some Swedes around here and some of them might not have noticed that BG is on.

I haven't seen the OS.

I just think Battlestar Galactica sounds cheesy. "Battlestar" or "Galactica" had been enough. Combining them is like "adding onion to salmon", as we say in Sweden.

Or "to put cake on cake".

I agree, the name was, is and will always be cheesy. It doesn't matter wether it is english, german or swedish. I think it might be a serious hindrance for most potential viewers.

"Battlestar Galactica? Sounds stupid, I think I will watch the 103th repeat of that movie on the other channel, or see an episode of the new "YetAnotherSitCom"-show." Never knowing what they have missed... - though at least that's better for them then knowing what they missed

That, on the other hand, is a good question.

But I am certain someone more creative at this moment can come up with something. I'll give a few tries.

Maybe Exodus, or to stay with the theme of other franchises Star Exodus) might have worked.
The Lost Colony (refering to Earth). The Twelve Tribes might also have fit (though that would imply a focus on the 12 different tribes, which doesn't exist). Maybe a better one would be The Thirteenst Tribe (again, refering to Earth).

But that said, it is to late for that now - this would have been a decision to be made in the 70s, not today. BSG TNS couldn't change it back. And Battlestar Galactica probably worked fine in the 70s. And it probably does today, too, since genre fans are not really appalled by the title (I am fine with it, as long as I don't have to talk with non-sci-fi-fans trying to concince them that despite the name, the show is good ).

The fact that the name is basically the only gripe I have with BSG TNS should speak volumes about how much I like it

Perhaps when talking to such fans, don't say "despite the name."

I still like the name and title for this show.

If you like fine acting, check.
If you like drama, check.
If you like action, check.
If you like some wicked cool space combat, check.
If you like the occasional well-handled commentary on current issues, check.

If you like unlikable characters that never really make you care*, check.

* Ok, so this isn't entirely true. Before I finally stopped watching I was really hoping the lot of them would die horribly. But deep down I knew it wasn't going to happen.

(In Norwegian it'd probably be something like: "Legge løk på laks", which is nice and alliterative and all, but I'm not getting the "cake on cake" meaning.)

Same alliteration - different taste. I'm just glad Superman isn't called Super-duperman.
