Battle vs. Frenzied Berserker

I would have agreed with you a couple years ago, until I worked out that you can remove death from the game and still have a significant amount of risk. In fact, in many ways permanent death in the game reduces a significant amount of risk, since living with the repercussions of failure is one of the biggest risks possible, and permanent death removes that.

Always remember - a good torturer never, ever lets the victim die :]

I see the logic in that, but i dont see why you'd remove permanent death from the game?

so you are cautious for the first bunch of levels, but once you get higher, it becomes quite easy to raise characters

Its not like i TRY to kill characters, or plan things so that they MUST do it a certain way or die, but sometimes its just inevitable, sometimes pc's just die *and in my experience, it was mostly from doing something they shouldnt have*

but i understand what your saying, if its in an encounter type situation, i wont just say, well you lost, so the goblins kill you, no, i'd keep it going and give them opportunities to right it. Have the goblins ransom them off, or keep them as slaves *with possiblity of escape*, and a lot of the times those situations are a lot of fun

This one is a hard case to judge tho, cause frenzied berserkers do a lot of damage quick, and are tough tough opponents, but a group of that size/level should be able to handle it....if they cant, and dont run...then they may just learn a lesson (perhaps how to deal with melee monsters like this with a better spell selection *cough*)
