[BDP] Master at Arms - Shieldbearer released!

BLACKDIRGE

Adventurer

The next installment of the Master at Arms series doesn’t deal with a weapon; instead it explores a piece of equipment that no self-respecting warrior would be caught without: the shield. The shield has never gotten its due in the d20 system, and the 3-level shieldbearer prestige class seeks to rectify that oversight. A shieldbearer brings a host of shield-related abilities into combat, both defensive and offensive. A skilled shieldbearer can use his shield to stop a giant’s club cold, resist the effect of a dragon’s breath, or simply smash his opponent’s to flinders.

So give your fighters a reason to choose something other than a greatsword or a pair of scimitars, with Blackdirge Publishing and Master at Arms: Shieldbearer.

Master at Arms – Shieldbearer contains 7 pages of new d20 material, which includes the following:
  • A historical look at the shield
  • Author’s design notes
  • The shieldbearer prestige class
  • Mazzog “The “Wall,” an ogre shieldbearer mercenary
  • A new shield special ability: mighty bashing

Also, there a number of new Master at Arms product bundles available at RPGNow and DriveThruRpg, allowing you to save over 25% on Master at Arms titles.

Greetings Blackdirge,

I got a question about your PrC: "Do the abilities only apply to light and heavy shields, or can some of them apply even to bucklers and tower shields (as well as extreme shields found in Races of Stone) ?"

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work,

JiCi

The shieldbearer class is for light and heavy shields only. Bucklers and tower shields already have enough in-game benefits, and they really are used in a much different way than standard shields. However, it wouldn't be game-breaking to treat bucklers as light shields for the purpose of the class. Tower shields, on the other hand, would be way too powerful with all the benefits a shieldbearer gets.

Just a little note to say that the pdf refers to light and heavy shields as small and large shields, as for 3e. You might want to update it.

I just noticed that myself. I don't know what the hell I was thinking there. =]

An updated PDF is on the way.

Heh! The best example was 'light and large shields' or something like that used in the same sentence. :)

There's a review up on RPGNow, BTW, in case you haven't noticed it yet. :)
