How about stats or a writeup for the "host" of the series?

I think that would be really fun.

And just because I'm a fan of little detail stuff, how about a few sample "ancient tomes, scrolls, clay tablets, etc." that PCs might find that would include a variant spell. It would be cool to find/ track down dusty old tomes with ominous names in order to learn some of the more powerful spell variants.

Basically some info on a few famous or infamous books that would fit in to the "universe" created in the BTS series. Kind of a Call of Cthulhu type thing...mysterious books with interesting names, except these wouldn't ya know, drive you insane.

Just so everyone knows, there will be a hardcover but I'm only going to print to pre-orders +10 or so copies. I'm not gonna throw a lot of money away on printing anything.

When and where can we pre-order a copy?

I do not know yet if the compilation will be in PDF.

We'll announce how to pre-order the hardcover as soon as it's ready. Subscribers to the series will get a discount on the hardcover.

How about everything from Acid Fog to Zone of Truth? :p

And for those not paying attention, here is a list of all Behind the Spells so far;

Acid Arrow, Animate Dead, Antimagic Field, Blade Barrier, Bless, Burning Hands, Cone of Cold, Dancing Lights, Disintegrate, Fire Shield, Fireball, Hold Person, Invisibility, Levitate Light Magic Missile, Mirror Image, Polymorph, Prestidigitation, Prismatic Trio, Reverse Gravity, Shatter, Shield, Shocking Grasp, Silence, Sleep, Teleport, Temporal Stasis, the Walls, Web, Wish & Limited Wish.

I would second Guards & Wards, it is such a specialized spell and I would like to see a variant that could be used Outiside to defend a small village, like in the Seven Samaurai.

I also would like to see the Creation/ Fabrication spells origin and maybe 101 uses for Minor Creation.

The origin of Charm magic would be interesting and why are Elves so resistant to it?

The first Summoning spell would also be a good one, was the creature summoned on purpose or was its arrival an accident?

Some interesting suggestions there, Dark Psion. Why the elves are resistant to charm would make for a good issue for a "Behind the Races" series. ;) Although if I can think of a way to fit it in here I just might. And I, too, have given some thought to summon spells but I just don't know if it's going to happen.

What is the target length of the printed book? How much extra material will you actually need to reach that length? Is the printed version going to be spell by spell basically like the pdfs or will there be consolidation of similar sections?

Sorry 'bout that, Joe. I think it's a case of not knowing yet. I don't think the book will have a "target length." As for the presentation, I was going to keep the spell-by-spell version because quite often the flavor text in the "spell secrets" and "related research" sections tie in with the origin story. This seems to make the most sense.
