Best 10th lvl Melee "Tank"

Another fairly standard possibility.

Fighter. Plate armour, Tower shield, 13 Dex, fighting defensively gives AC28 with a penalty to hit of -7 overall, but you can give up actions to take Total Cover behind the shield, which can be useful sometimes (e.g. block the corridor and then settle down taking Total Cover so they can't actually hit you)

If you're using psionics, a dwarven psychic warrior with a high con is incredibly hard to kill. You use vigor to give yourself nigh-endless temporary hit points, and there's a power that lets you inflict the damage you've taken onto an enemy. I played one for a year or two, and it was fun.

Crusader is pretty much the best way to go for the possibility of invulnerability in melee.

With the Roots of the Mountain stance you are incredibly difficult to move. With a tower shield, shield specialization, and shield ward you are incredibly difficult to hit with anything.

Strongheart halfling
Crusader 10
Shield Specialization, Shield Ward, Combat Focus, Combat Stability, Combat Vigor
Belt of Magnificence +2, Tower Shield +2, Mithril Breastplate +1, Longsword +1, Crystal of Bent Sight, Crystal of Adaptation, Ring of Sustenence

While in Roots of the Mountain you gain a bonus of +24 to resist bull rush, grapple, disarm, overrun, and trips. With damage reduction 2/-, steely resolve 15, and fast healing 4 you are almost unstoppable with pure damage. With the crystal of bent sight you do not have to worry as much about gaze attacks, crystal of adaptation gives you endure elements to ignore the heat and cold, and the ring of sustenence allows you to go without food, water, and almost without sleep.

The items for this character are not heavily depended upon they simply make the character more able to do what he is already doing.

If you want to go kind of a crazy route then here is an idea.

Feral Strongheart halfling
Totemist 9 with all 3 racial substitution levels
Expanded Soulmeld Capacity, Shape Soulmeld Lucky Dice, Martial Study Charging Minotaur, Martial Stance Stonefoot Stance, Bonus Essentia
Psychoactive Skin of Ectoplasmic Armor from Complete Psionic, Monks belt with Strength +4 on it
Melds of Manticore Belt [Totem], Lucky Dice *hands*, Totem Avatar [Shoulders], Wormtail Belt *waist*, 2 others to taste
5 melds plus Lucky Dice, 8 essentia, 2 binds (crown, feet, hands, arms, brow, shoulders, totem)

Strongheart halfling
Totemist 10 with all 3 racial substitution levels
Expanded Soulmeld Capacity, Shape Soulmeld Lucky Dice, Martial Study Charging Minotaur, Martial Stance Stonefoot Stance, Double Chakra Totem
Psychoactive Skin of Ectoplasmic Armor from Complete Psionic, Monks belt with Strength +4 on it
Melds of Girallon arms [Totem], Kruthic Claws [Totem], Lucky Dice *hands*, Wormtail Belt *waist*, 2 others to taste
5 melds plus Lucky Dice, 6 essentia, 2 binds (crown, feet, hands, arms, brow, shoulders, totem)

The first is fast, very hard to hit, heals any damage dealt back, and has a crazy ranged attack. The second is not quite as tough but he does have 4 attacks a round that deal massive damage.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding the tone of your first post. But how about talking to the DM and explain why you are not enjoying the way the game plays out right now.

And if that doesn't work either offer to run a few one off games to show the type of game you would enjoy or politely leave the game.

Designing a character strictly to annoy the DM ain't gonna work that well, he can always bring something nastier to the table than you.

i guess i wasnt all that clear...

i have created a few well balanced characters that ive been wanting to play, and everyone of them has been shot down for what appears to me (and the other players) for no reason other than he doesnt want to keep track of my abilities and work them into his ideas of combat.

i have talked to him, in length, and he refuses to change his mind, so i have decided to stick with a tank with minimal abilities (that come into affect in different scenarios) and just go for a nice "beat 'em up" style of character rather than a more roguish type.

and i would just leave, but im just gonna bide my time with him as a dm until my other companions and i can find another dm in the area

SRD cheese

How about a dwarven Ftr 4/ Psi War 3/ Mk 2/ Dwarven Defender 1 ?

S 18
D 18
C 14
I 8
W 18
Ch 6

After you get the Feats: dodge, toughness, endurance you still get a sick amount of bonus feats from fighter, PsiW, and Mk levels. The saves are nice too.

Your AC without magic would be: +4 Dx, +4 Wis, +1 Dodge from DD, another +1 Dodge against your chosen Dodge opponent. for a walking around AC 19 or 20. If you have 2 rounds to buff, your powers Inertial armor and force shield give you an AC 27 or 28, then get into your Defensive Stance and get another +4 Dodge bonus for an AC 31 or 32. Pretty nice without magic items like rings of protection and amulets of nat armor.

I hope all my math is good, i'm doing this a little distracted at the moment.

Hmmm... a Crusader is probably not going to work, then. They have lots of abilities.

What about a (Paladin or Fighter)/Dwarven Defender? They are pretty straightforward and can have some nice defenses.

How about a Githzerai Monk?

(+6 Racial Dex) + (+2 Racial Wis) + (Inertial Armor) = Supermonk!!

Crappy hit points (+2 LA), but who's going to be able to hit you?

Oh. Now you're opening up a can of worms...

Pixie.

Swashbuckler 4/Duelist 2
S 14 D 26 Con 19 I 20 W 12 Ch 12
(S 18 D 18 Co 18 I 14 W 8 Ch 6 before racial/level mods)

AC = 23 (+8 (dex) +1 size +2 (duelist) +1 dodge +1 natural) and will increase by 1 each level
more importantly, you're invisible so attacks against you have a miss chance of 50%

Take a polearm. Fly around above your opponent's reach.

OK. Maybe not a tank.

Pretty hard to hurt, though. (There are far worse Pixie-builds. I'm being conservative here.)

ok, in my frustration, i left out some key facts...

its at 10th lvl, and its a quirky home-brew

i would be much obliged of you could link the srd to the crusader and other prestige classes because i'm low on text and refrence materials

and as far as gear and equipment goes, i go 30k to spend, but seeing how in this world, magic items are illegal to buy or create anymore, its more or less a constant attempt to try to find something that isnt totally worthless

as far as stats go...

its a point buy, but instead of using the DMG, i have been given 82 points to distribute at face value through my stats.

and as far as what im looking for...

i'd really like to have an insane AC, and be able to inflict mediocre damage per attack, but just get a crap-load of them

again, thanks much for the time...
For pure core, I'd probably go for a Dwarf Fighter (maybe 2 levels of Barbarian), full plate (mithril?) and tower shield, feats like Combat Expertise, Dodge and Mobility.
